Chapter 9
Saturday 10:56am
I jolted forward, eyes wide open searching every inch of the bedroom for any possibility of my father's presence. Nothing. Just me, alone, figuratively and literally. I sighed and fell back onto my pillow, as I blindly searched for my cell phone with my hand. Subconsciously I skimmed through my text messages to my most recent contact, Harry. I observed the picture he had sent me yesterday of me at the aquarium. Skeptically, I typed him a text.

*Um, do you wanna do something?* Why am I so awkward. Better yet, why am I such am anti-social bitch?

My phone gave a high pitched ding, and I moved quickly to see his response.

*Of course, should I pick you up?* His response made me eager, so I got out of my bed and start dressing.

Harry's POV
Wow, how unexpected, I honestly wasn't expecting a text from Karleigh, I'm glad it was her though. I scramble to take a shower and grab a towel on my way into the bathroom. The water it only like warm when I jump inside the tub, not having enough time to wait for the water temperature to rise. Karleigh said she'd be on her way shortly, I have limited time. The phone rings from outside of the shower curtain and I hastily shut the water off and climb out of the shower. Cold air hits me and chill bumps spread like a wildfire across my skin, before I wrap a towel around my waist. My cell phone screen shows me that I have another text from Karleigh.

*Address?* I chuckle and type my address as I rush back into my room and yanking on a white v-neck t-shirt and jeans. I grab my cologne and spray it under my t-shirt, just as my doorbell rings. I dart out of my room and dart down the stairs of my apartment. When I reach the front door, it's already open and my roommate Niall is standing there staring at Karleigh, obviously trying to flirt with her. I cannot make out their exchange of words but I can hear the annoyance in her voice. Niall says something else to her and I can practically hear Karleigh rolling her eyes. She doesn't respond to him, she leans over his shoulder and shouts my name. The sound of her voice sends chills up my spine and I shove past Niall giving Karleigh a welcoming smile. "Hey Karls, ignore my roommate. C'mon in." I surprise myself with the random nickname I applied to her, and by the look on her face I shocked her too. She quickly recovers her facial expression and steps inside of my apartment, glaring at Niall who is now standing off to the side. "Does he harass all of your female friends?" Her musically, grumpy voice asks. I wink at Niall and smile at Karleigh. "Only the pretty ones..." Karleigh's cheeks flush and she grabs my hand urging me to show her to my room. "Have fun!" Niall calls after us and I chuckle before telling him that we're just friends.

We walk up the stairs and I close my bedroom door behind us. Karleigh walks straight towards my bed, removes her heels and lays down on her side, propping her head up on her elbow. I climb onto the bed beside her and lay down, we both remain silent staring deeply into each others eyes.

Her eyes are so beautiful, and blue, and piercing, and paralyzingly. Her breathing slows and for some reason I try to match my breaths to hers. Karleigh lifts her hand and brushes a stray curl from my forehead, her touch leaves a burning sensation in its path as her fingertip grazed my forehead. My eyes fluttered shut as I tried to resist her and remind myself that we are just friends, Karleigh isn't interested.

"Open your eyes..." She barely whispered.

"Why?" I ask, my eyes remaining closed.

"Because their beautiful, and... and they're tranquilizing. I like them." Karleigh's voice is still soft, and I slowly open my eyes.

She's torturing me, how can I be just friends with her when she's mesmerizing me this way. I'm taken off guard by her words, she's usually so, harshly spoken. She can tell that her words surprised me because she avoids eye contact for a few minutes. Eventually, she gains the courage to meet my gaze again.

"I'm fascinated by you Karleigh..." I reciprocate her quite tone.

"But why though?" She seems confused by my confession, she's unaware why anyone would have interest in her. As if the answer isn't obvious.

"You're different. You don't put up an act, you're just yourself and you don't care if people don't like it. And you're damaged, it seems like you've had your fair share of reality." I tell her honestly. We're not looking at each other anymore, we're staring up at my ceiling. Karleigh risks a glance over at me and I meet her eyes.

Karleigh's POV
I don't know what came over me. He just openly told me why he likes me and it was genuine, not some bullshit answer about my body proportions like most guys give me. My eyes scan his face for any sign of sarcasm, but he looked so sincere. The next few moments were a blur, I leaned up on my knees and leaned over, pressing my soft lips against Harry's. He was surprised I could tell, but he quickly recovered and his arms snaked around my waist. His lips were gentle but dominant and he nibbled my lower lip as I granted him access to deepen the kiss. His tongue traced my mouth and a moan purred from the back of my throat. Harry's hands stroked up and down my sides as we continued to kiss, before finally we broke apart. Pants fell from both of our lips and we just stared at each other. I couldn't find any words to say, so I just slowly leaned back down onto the bed, this time a little closer to Harry than before.

"I'm not exactly sure why I asked to come over... I wasn't, planning that.." I try to explain to Harry, my nervous getting the best of me. "It's just, in an odd way, you remind me of my Dad."

Confusion crosses his facial features, before realization hits. "You lost, your dad?" His husky voice is low and concerned.

"Ya," I croak, my voice barely an audible whisper. A number or emotions flash across Harry's face and I direct my eyes elsewhere. I don't know why I even told him, he's probably gonna pity me like every fucking body else. God, how much more stupid could I get. Harry slowly moves to reach towards me, his massive hand grips my waist, then sliding me closer to him so I was laying against him. Our proximity was extremely close and Harry's warm breath was fanning out over my skin.

His hand reaches up and cups my chin. What has gotten into me? Why am I allowing this? More importantly, why am I wanting it?

"Can I kiss you again?" Harry's deep voice asks, nearly pleading. I give him a prompting nod and he crashes his lips to mine. Harry rolls over, partly on top of me, never breaking our kiss. My hands wrap encouragingly around his neck, and I sigh into our kiss. There are no traces of pity in the kiss Harry and I are sharing, I feel overwhelmed by the feeling he brings upon me. What is this feeling?

Harry's bedroom door swings upon, unannounced. "Hey man--Oh whoops, uh sorry." I squeal and shove Harry against his chest to get him off of me. My cheeks are burning and Harry's chuckling. "I thought you said you were just friends?" Niall calls through the door and I blush even more. "Ever heard of knocking?" I call back to Niall, he chuckles and I hear his footsteps disappear down the hallway. Harry's eyes are burning a hole in my face and I dare to look over at him, with an eyebrow raised. He doesn't say anything, just smirks. I push myself up off of the bed and slip my feet into my heels. "I should, get going." I inform Harry. He climbs off of the bed and leads me to the front door.

"See ya later, Karls." Harry says with a smile, and I smile back at his familiar nickname that was once used by my father.

"Bye Harry." I timidly smile back as I step out of his door. His hand catches my wrist before I can get too far. I glance back at him, and he was intently staring at me.

"Hopefully soon." He adds, before allowing me to part ways.
