Chapter 41

Karleigh's POV

I rush to get ready and look presentable for my Mom's arrival, in a fe short hours. Aunt Jocelyn left to the airport to pick her up not too long ago, and I know that they will be back soon.

My hands roam through the clean laundry that has yet to be removed from my bed. In search of something to wear, I begin folding and hanging the bundle of clothes and placing them neatly into my closet, and dresser drawers. To my liking, my closet is becoming quite full, and never had I realized just how much clothes I have.

A teal colored blouse captures my attention and I slide my arms through the sleeves. Mom loves the color blue, maybe this will make her treat me better than usual. Doubtful.

I can't help but admire the teal top, on my body in the mirror. The tight-fitting fabric is lace and it has long sleeves, the shirt exposes my midriff just above my belly button. Cautiously, I slide my belly button ring out of its hole. I roll my eyes and giggle at my thoughtfulness, but I know very well that I can't go a day without my belly button ring. Besides, my stomach looks weird without it anyways. I press the jewelry back into my stomach.

Matching the lace, teal blouse with a light colored pair of skinny jeans. The outfit is casual, but decent, hopefully my Mom will be satisfied. Taking my time, I apply a thin line of eyeliner and the usual amount of mascara. My mind wanders as I get ready, and I realize I never heard back from Harry yesterday after he was done with his internship.

It doesn't matter, we aren't dating. I helplessly try to remind myself, but it's no use.

I sigh and turn on my radio, in attempt to get my mind off of him. One of my favorite songs by the Rollingstones starts to play, You Can't Always Get What You Want.

Time starts to slip away as I direct my concentration to the music and altering my appearance. The door to my bedroom creeps open, but I barely notice, too engulfed in straightening my hair.

"Hey Stranger!" My Mom greets me with a wide, perfectly straight toothed smile. I jump back, my hand flying to my chest in surprise.

"Fuck!" I scream. My Mom's eyes budge slightly out of her head from my foul language, but it's nothing she hasn't heard before.

"Shit sorry," I apologize. "You scared me a little bit, there." I justify.

Her smile returns and she admires my appearance. "You look beautiful, and healthy. Not smoking?" She questions and I raise my eyebrow at her twisted compliment of an insult.

"No, still smoking." I partly lie, I've just been forgetting to smoke...I guess. The corners of her lips turn downwards for a fraction of a second before returning to her perky grin. Her arms open wide and she steps forward to embrace me. I don't resist her, though I probably should.

Subconsciously I wrap my arms around her in return, and we stay like this for a moment in silence. My arms drop down to my sides, when she continues to hug me longer than necessary.

"I love the color of your shirt." Her smile grows wider, if that's possible. I know you do. I think to myself, but I don't say it aloud because then she'll know that I chose this shirt just for her.

Her eyes scan over me once more, and her eyes freeze on my belly button ring, before continuing to scan. She purses her lips for a reason I'm unsure of, and my heart starts to race. "Black nails, really?" She points out and shrugs.

Now I remember why I hate my Mom so much, she's a judgmental bitch. A slight knock comes from the door, and Aunt Jocelyn joins us in my room. She's smiling just as big as my Mom, and I can feel vile rising in my throat.

"You guys are back early." I plainly state to Aunt Jocelyn. She shoots me a guilty look. "Yeah, your mother's plane landed early, but we're only back twenty minutes early." She defends.

My eyes dart to the clock on my bedside shelf. No way. It's been nearly two hours since I last caught a glimpse of the clock. I must've really been caught up in getting ready.

"I was thinking we could go out to dinner or something, after all, it is your Mom's first night in Dallas." Aunt Jocelyn suggests excitedly.

I fight the stronger urge to frown and groan loudly. My Mom seems to approve of her idea, because they're both smiling at each other.

A loud knock comes from the front door, distracting them from needing an answer from me. Relief floods through me as Aunt Jocelyn leaves the room to answer the door, and my Mom trails behind her.

Muffled talking is coming from down the hall, but I don't bother to pay any attention to it as I grab a pair of white converse from my closet. I jam my feet into my shoes, without un-tying the shoelaces.

"Karleigh!" Aunt Jocelyn and my Mom call in unison, their voice nearly the same pitch. They are sisters, I don't know what else I'd expect. I roll my eyes and stomp down the hall way to see what they need, my eyes on my carpet as I take my time walking. Someone clears their throat and I look up to see it was my Mom who did. She has a big, cheesy smile on her face and I make an annoyed expression at her.

That is until I notice who is standing in the doorway. Of course, it's Harry.
