Chapter 29

Karleigh's POV

"Don't be such a bitch, I'm just trying to have a good time." Todd growls. I wince at his grip on my waist, and try to jerk out of his hold. My attempt fails, and only causes him to grip me tighter and I cry out in pain.

"See baby, this could be fun." He says and I spit in his face.

Immediately he releases my waist and wipes the saliva off of his face with his hand. I turn to run, but Todd grabs my arm forcefully and jerks me back to him. A pain shoots up my arm, to my shoulder and I bite the inside of my cheek to prevent myself from crying.

"You bitch." He growls, before slapping me across my face. The skin on my cheek bursts into a painful sting, but I don't cry. I ball my fist up and slam it forcefully into his jaw. He stumbles backwards and grabs his jaw, and I know I knocked him slightly off of his equilibrium. While he's down I knee him in his crotch and he grunts at the force.

Faster than I expected, he recovers from my assault and his fingers grab my faces. I squeal in protest, but his fingers only dig deeper into my cheeks. He yanks me towards him, and I willingly move hoping to reduce the pain occurring in my jaw. No such luck. He breaths heavily, and leans in to kiss my right on the mouth, but before his lips make contact with mine, he's shoved to the ground. I scream as his fingers rip away from my face, and black spots fade into my vision. I blink rapidly, trying to get a clear view of what's going on, and that's when I realize that Travis has Todd pinned to the ground and he's punching him repeatedly.

"Travis!" I scream and my fingers lace through my hair, tugging at my scalp in panic. Travis doesn't let up, his hits keep slamming against Todd and I can't bare to watch any longer.

I spin on my heels and sprint out the door of Travis's apartment.

I drove home very slowly, and cautiously. My adrenaline is rushing, and I can't forget that I did have an alcoholic drink tonight. Driving a stick shift, while barely intoxicated, and panicked seems dangerous to me. The drive home takes nearly an hour. Pain is overwhelming my body, thanks to the attack I received from Todd. Tears can't seem to stop flowing from my eyes, as I park in the driveway of Aunt Jocelyn's house.

Slowly and steadily I walk up the sidewalk, to the front door. The door opens before I can open it, and I'm standing face to face with a worried Aunt Jocelyn.

"Hi," I croak and Aunt Jocelyn wrap her arms around me. I wince at the slight pain from her arms touching my waist, and she releases me from her hold.

"Travis called me, and he told me what happened." She says, tears brimming her eyes. "Or at least, what he saw of it..." She adds. I step into the house, and close the door behind me.

"He attacked me, and I hit him back." I admit, without meeting her eyes.

"Attacked you? Let me see," she barely whispers.

I look up at her, and she gives me a reassuring nod. I flick on the kitchen light and show her my cheek. She puckers her lips and I can see that she's fighting a frown. Slowly, I lift up the shirt I was wearing from dinner, and turn so she can see my hip. A gasp escapes her lips and I glance down at it.

Bruises in the shape of a hand mark my skin in a bluish tint. Hastily, I tug my shirt back down and I can hear Aunt Jocelyn fighting back sobs.

"Jesus, Karleigh." She murmurs, as she turns me slightly to get a look at my arm. I hadn't even noticed the dark bruise that's now starting to form from Todd's man handling on my arm.

"Should we file a report?" She asks me.

"No. No reports. Let it go." I tell her, making eye contact. She stares back at me and frowns. "Let it go." I repeat, before turning and walking upstairs and shutting my door.
