"Shut up.
Do what you're told"
---
"Paint your face.
Work yourself to the bone."
---
"Stay in line.
Be like the others."
---
"Smile for the camera.
Just do the same old thing."
---
"You don't want to be different,
Do you?"
---
---
But what if I wanted to scream
In the middle of the street
In the middle of the night
And for once in my life
Not care about the outcome?
---
What if I wanted to run
Run away for a while
Escape to a place
Where nobody can find me
Where nobody can stop me?
---
What if I wanted to laugh?
Laugh like you told me to
Laugh 'till my face was twisted
And the tears ran down my face
And I couldn't stand?
---
What if I wanted to break
Fall into insanity
Fall to blissful release
Cause the crazy don't care about
What other people think?
---
---
So what would you do, then?
Would you lock me away?
Invent some excuse
For my wild behavior
So I could live in your life?
---
Would you still try to mold me?
Control me ?
Try to make me into the person
You never could be?
But why me?
---
Why me?
---
---
Don't you realize
What you've done to me?
---
---
There was peace in my heart
Once.
There was silence in my mind
Once.
I thought I was beautiful
Once.
I thought I was fine
Once.
---
Then you came along
And told me I was wrong
In trying to save me
"From social destruction"
You've destroyed me.
---
You put pain in my heart
You put demons in my mind
You opened my eyes to my imperfections
And now I can't stop looking.
---
So if you ask me
Why I destroyed myself
So utterly
I'll just tell you the truth.
---
I was already dead
By the time you were through with me.

Scratching the Surface (Poems)
PoetryUPDATE: I wrote these when I was 13 and depressed all the time. I'm 18 now, and, fortunately, life's been going well! Unfortunately, these poems are fairly cringe, so read at your own risk. Just some poems that I write when I'm in the poetic mood...
