Happy new year, I guess, though it'll probably suck. Stay safe out there, kay?
-------
And for everyone
There comes a time
There comes a moment
When you pass from girl to women
From boy to man
From the warmth of your ignorance
To the cold reality beyond your storybooks
The moment that you realize
That the words
"You can be anything you want"
Are a lie.
The moment you realize
That your parents are flawed
And they don't know everything
And they can't protect you any longer
The moment you realize
That the kid in the frayed clothes
With the bruised face
Probably won't live to 18
The moment that you realize
That you aren't special
You must follow the rules
Like everyone else
The moment when you realize
You can't save everyone
You can't reach everyone
You can barely save yourself
The moment that you realize
That the world isn't black and white
Good and evil aren't so perfectly defined
And the light side doesn't always win
---------
And so you change
You learn to keep your thoughts to yourself
To not stand out, or speak up
To turn away instead of risking your status
To mold yourself to the perfect human being
Or die trying.
You close your heart to your fellow humans
Forget to forgive, to trust, to care
Because you know that people will use you
If you dare show any emotion
And so we walk till death do part us
Never knowing
Never realizing
There is another way.

Scratching the Surface (Poems)
PoetryUPDATE: I wrote these when I was 13 and depressed all the time. I'm 18 now, and, fortunately, life's been going well! Unfortunately, these poems are fairly cringe, so read at your own risk. Just some poems that I write when I'm in the poetic mood...
