Dear Alice

Dear Alice,

It seems like only a moment

Since you left.

Though, who really knows just how long it's been

For you

And your strange timescale.

Are you even still

Alive?

---

Dear Alice,

You were such a

Pretty thing.

Smart

Impudent

Quite a nuisance, really

Now that we think of it.

Traipsing around our world

Declaring our laws ridiculous.

We wonder if you still think so.

---

Dear Alice,

Apologizes for our harsh words

Sometimes we forget

Let the tongue slip

Please, little girl

Forgive us our follies

As we have forgiven yours.

Of course, that begs the question

Are you still a little girl?

We think not.

---

Dear Alice,

Time has moved fast for you

Too fast.

I suppose you never realized

The gift you had been given,

Quite by accident,

Until it was too late.

---

Dear Alice,

Do you understand now?

Madness is not a thing

Confined to our world

Madness seeps out into yours.

Twisted

Dark

Ugly

Imprisoning those living there

Trapped there.

Consuming the dreamers

The believers

The hopeful

The innocent

And crushing them

Into blackened uniformity

---

Dear Alice,

You say our world is strange

Cruel

Nonsensical.

But it seems you have never

Looked at yours.

---

Dear Alice,

You are the stuff

Of stars.

So no wonder

You will die.

---

Dear Alice

You dream of

Us.

You long for

Us.

Every day, you beg for

Us.

But Darling

I fear it's too late

You are no longer

Quite as curious

As before.

---

---

You see,

Don't you?

Wonderland is

A place of madness

And nightmares

And paradise.

It stole a price

Of you,

Alice.

Showed you that your world

Could be so much

More.

And now you long for it.

You don't want to live without it.

---

---

---

---

But Wonderland is gone

It won't come back.

So it seems you must suffer

Alone in your world of sameness

Slowly going mad

As all dreamers must.

Until you die

Alone

Helpless

Insane

Broken

Knowing that your life

Could have been so much more.

---

---

Poor Alice

Poor, poor Alice.
