She was only human
But we swore she was special.
---
It was true she had a way with words
Could have been a small-town treasure
But we blew her achievements out of proportion
Made her aim higher
---
She was only a girl
But we made her a goddess
---
Selling her best works to the public
Feeding the masses with fresh blood.
Marketing her as the "hot new trend"
An instant star overnight
---
She was only a child
But we worked her to the bone
---
Five minutes of fame ran down quick
Not everyone can top their best
She shone too bright
Too fast
Rose too high
To last.
Burning out as fast as she'd come.
Ridiculed by the ones who loved her.
Living on the streets of Hollywood
Losing the will to live.
---
---
---
And meanwhile, we dust off the pedestal
Sweep what remains into some dark corner
Waiting for another naïve little dreamer
Inexpensive
And replaceable.
To please the crowd.

PoetryUPDATE: I wrote these when I was 13 and depressed all the time. I'm 18 now, and, fortunately, life's been going well! Unfortunately, these poems are fairly cringe, so read at your own risk. Just some poems that I write when I'm in the poetic mood...
