I saw you
I saw you on the curb
Huddled under the flickering streetlight
I saw you in the cold
Your over-sized sweater pulled around your pale shoulders
I saw you in the night
Back hunched, hair blowing around your face
I saw you in the starlight
Blood dripping slowly from your nose.
I saw you in the silence
Eyes large and blue
And broken
---
The funny things is
They'd found your body two days ago
Beaten to death by your girlfriend
And stuffed in the back of a car
Maybe it was just my imagination
