Lilianna (NEW VERSION)

Chapter 27

"Seth, are we almost to the hospital? We're losing him." Lilianna asked.

Seth nodded, "A minute away."

"Darien, please, don't leave me." his mate whimpered as she held his hand.

When they reached the hospital, Seth instantly found a doctor, telling them what had happened. It only took a few minutes for Darien to be put on a gurney and wheeled into surgery, all three watched with sorrowful and worried looks as the ER doors shut. Lilianna gently guided Darien's mate to the waiting room with Seth quietly following.

"So, what's your name?" Lilianna asked.

The girl sighed, "Avery. He's....he's going to be okay, right?"

Lilianna sighed, "To be honest, I don't know, but he is a very strong fighter."

"So, you think he has a chance?" she asked.

"I believe so."

For the next twelve hours, they sat in the waiting room, anxious to know about their friend. Seth kept pacing back and forth, his eyes glazed over with thought. Lilianna yawned, she glanced at Avery to see her staring at the ceiling.

"Can I ask a few questions?" Lilianna suddenly asked.

Avery looked at her and nodded, "Go ahead."

"What...who is that man? The one who seemed to be in charge of things?" 

"Darien's father."

Seth stiffened, "He looks different. Has less hair."

Avery glanced at him before looking back at Lilianna, "If Darien didn't do what he said, he would always punish me. By doing so, he was punishing Darien at the same time. Darien had tried freeing me and figuring out ways to free us from his father, but his father somehow always knew. His father hates him more than anything, not really sure why, but I'm assuming it's because he's messed up in the head. Anyway, I have no idea what even caused this, but...I have a feeling his father found something out." 

Seth frowned, "Darien said something about a witch."

Avery nodded, "His mother is a witch, she left his father and thought Darien would be safe in the pack."

"His dad hates him because he's part witch?" Lilianna asked.

"I don't know." Avery sighed. 

"Explains why he changed suddenly." Seth mumbled. 

"What?"

He looked at both girls, "Darien was my closest friend, he's like an older brother to me. He would always support me, no matter what, but then he just suddenly started hating me. I thought it was out of jealousy. Now I know it wasn't." 

They sat there for a few more hours, each of them buried in their own thoughts. The sound of the doctor clearing her throat earned their attention. They all instantly stood up and walked over, their eyes mirroring their fear for their friend.

"The bullet had done quite some damage, considering it was silver, his wolf couldn't do much. It had nicked an artery which caused all the bleeding, unfortunately, there was also internal bleeding. His femur was also broken, luckily, it didn't hit the artery, but we had to res-position it. He's a very strong fighter, he pulled through after coding twice during surgery. His leg will take at least six days, depending on how fast his wolf is able to heal. However, the wound in his chest will take about two weeks. There was damage to his lungs, which made it nearly impossible for him to breathe on his own, he currently has a breathing tube in." she explained.

Lilianna sighed in relief, "Can we see him?"

"Yes, I must warn you though, he is not out of the woods yet. The next forty-eight hours will be critical. Those hours will determine if he'll make a full recovery or not." she warned.

They all nodded their understanding before following her through the halls, once they reached Darien's room, they allowed Avery to step in first. Avery's eyes filled with tears when she saw him, she slowly walked over to his bed and grabbed his hand. 

"Once he's awake and can breathe on his own, we'll take the breathing tube out. If he wakes up while I'm not here, make sure he doesn't panic and try taking it out on his own. There should be a nurse though, she or he will check on him twice every hour." the doctor finished explaining.

Lilianna smiled, "Thank you."

The doctor nodded before turning and walking out the door, Lilianna looked at Seth to see him frozen to his spot. She grabbed his hand and gave it a squeeze, earning his attention. She smiled up at him before kissing him on the lips.

"Come on." she ushered.

He slowly walked towards his friend and sat on the other side of the bed. He sighed sadly as he studied him, sine his shirt was off and the hospital gown showed a bit of his chest, he noticed a few bruises. He also noticed old scars that he hadn't seen before, dread filled him as he took in every injury.

"Did his dad ever beat him?" he asked softly.

Avery shook her head, "No, but he forced Darien to fight his men until he couldn't stand anymore."

"So...he made sure he was always exhausted?" Lilianna asked.

Avery shrugged, "I think he made him fight for his own entertainment."

"Oh."

For the rest of the night, they stayed beside him, praying that he would pull through.
