The silence of the streets were too loud for her mind. She lay in bed eyes open staring at the ceiling as the darkness filled her room, and small strays of light shined against her wall from the crack of her blinds.

She didn't check the time not really caring about the hours of sleep she's missed.

She looked out the window wondering what stars were in the sky. That's when she noticed him. The boy in black again walking down her street. He came down almost every night.

She knew him. He went to her school. His name was Luke Hemmings an old friend who went distant. The name of the girl he goes to see is unknown to her. She'd always hear about Romeo and Juliet being the greatest love story in tragedy of all time. She thought this one was a close second.

He was white. She was (your race).

As far as she was still concerned them seeing each other was illegal. Perfectly illegal. And with riots going on and killings in the streets leaving mothers sobbing for their husbands and sons it was dangerous for them to do so.

Yet he climbed her house and her face brightened with a smile as they exchanged a few words. He went in following a kiss he wanted through the window.

The girl smiled laying back down in her bed as the night turned to day.

Over at least three years of watching the same thing over and over she saw flashing blue lights that stopped in front of the coloured girls house. She heard shouting and soon the whole block was out to watch. She wondered how they were able to live here in the first place. This was a white neighborhood.

The girl ran out and saw Luke in cuffs and the girl being dragged into a cop car.
Luke pushed away a cop and shouted her name. The first time the she's ever heard it.

Her name "Y/N.",the girl repeated.

Luke was pushed on top of the car while Y/N was harshly pushed into the cop car.

The block was shouting rude things but they didn't care. She could see it in his eyes he didn't give a damn.

The next week Luke went from being a wallflower to being one of the most known people in school. The cause of it being love or hate of what he's done hung in the air on a thin rope.

He walked into class with a busted lip throwing his things down in the back of the room and taking a seat. The girl sat next to him quickly.

"Luke."

He looked over at her. Her heart sank. His sapphire eyes were now a lifeless blue. Like the colour of the ocean during a hurricane. Bags under his eyes and his hair disheveled. Uncared for.

"Is she okay? Is Y/N okay",she asked.

He looked at his desk and she could see his state of mentality. What'd they do to him?

"I don't know.",he said so quietly. So unsure and weak. And quite frankly he didn't know.

"I'm so sorry Luke.",she said.

He nodded.

"Are you-",she stopped. Afraid of asking the wrong stupid and question. They sat quietly.

"Do you think- do you think they'll let her go?",he asked.

You looked at him trying to think. At times like these they could be starving her. Abusing her. They were all prejudice.

You looked away to the board.

"Amanda.",he said needing her answer for reassurance.

"Yeah. She's gonna be okay.",she said unsure herself.

Over time she and Luke grew a bond. He was the sweetest. Yet everyday he would still feel a pit that would lighten every time he was with her. Never really moving on. Until a year passed into winter.

He asked Amanda to prom. She said yes. That went farther into dating and then she lost her virginity to him. She loved him. And he loved her. Later their senior year the Jim Crow laws were lifted. The start of the senior year black kids and Hispanics along with Asians filled classrooms.

People have soon forgotten of the affair Luke has had with a coloured girl. His parents were happy he had found someone of his race. He couldn't care less of colour.

He was holding Amandas hand through the halls. Walking her to class.

That was until he was bumped into by a girl with her head down.

He turned his head watching her walk away. Khaki skirt and a navy blue long sleeve sweater with K-swiss and knee length socks.

She turned around and for the second his eyes met her face he stopped. She hasn't seen him.

"Y/N.",he whispered. Unsure if he was imagining things.

At lunch he sat with Amanda and she helped him with his studies. The coloured people sat on the far right of the cafeteria. The whites sat on the left. It was a natural border.

His eyes met her soft face again. He didn't know if she recognized him or not. He had hit puberty growing taller and had different but still similar features. He was alot more broad and even grew out his facial hair mildly.

"Amanda.",he asked.

She hummed swallowing a bite of her sandwich. She looked up following his eyes as he described her. And with each description he rembered his love for her. And how he wanted to love her again.

Amanda gasped.,"Y/N. That's Y/N!",she said with a smile.

Luke nodded. Still in disbelief.

"Go talk to her.",Amanda encouraged.

"But I'm happy with you.",he said looking down at her and smiling softly.

"Luke I believe you. But the look in your eye when you saw her..You still love her. What makes you think I'm not okay with that."

"Mandi-"

"No ones stopping you but yourself.",she argued.

He nodded. "Thank you. For everything."

As they were dismissed from lunch he looked for her in the crowd.

"Y/N!",he yelled towards her.

She turned around looking. He yelled her name again. Amanda watched from afar. She stood by and she felt like how it was when he saw her at night. Before the world took her away from him.

Y/N gasped covering her mouth and whispering his name.

She ran towards him pushing people out the way and Luke ran towards her as well pushing people away and muttering quick apologies. He came into collision with Y/N wrapping his arm around her waist and his other arm at her head and squeezing his eyes closed.

Amanda smiled softly a tear falling from her eye.

"I'm so sorry baby girl.",he said kissing her several times.

"Luke.",is all she could say in response.

He kissed her and he came back to life. He was okay now. She was okay now. Amanda was ecstatic for them.

From there on they became their schools first known interracial couple. They were a famous trio. That then became a group of people. Amanda ended up with a coloured boy named Calum. They became friends with two.others named Michael and Ashton. They were inseparable and that's what made them loveable.
