"Son, I don't mean to interrupt but where are the children? It's almost time for supper."
"They're upstairs."
"Oh okay. Darling I'm positive that your situation will get better soon, alright?"
"Yeah I hope so too. I'll go get the kids."
"I'll go with you."
"Who said that I wanted you to come along?"
He gave her a sad puppy dog face with his famous pout. As a response she tried to run from him but he caught her. He picked her up and placed her on his shoulder as he carried her upstairs.
"Aw look at that, its Mommy and Daddy," Lily said smiling at them.
"So what are you guys up to?" Paula asked knowing they were hiding something.
"That's none of your business," Holly said.
"Okay come on guys, supper's ready," Simon replied.
"Honey, can you please put me down?" Paula asked. "I need to have a talk with my daughters."
He gently set her feet on the ground. Then she took the girls inside of the room that they had just exited from just minutes ago. She told them that on the night that Rob left he had taken a kitchen knife and had given them cuts. Then she showed them the scars. Also she told them that she was so sorry that the event had to occur. And that she will find them a Dad who treats them like his own kids and who actually acted more like a real Dad than a step Dad. The girls embraced each other all they all cried, sad tears.
On the other side of the door, Simon was listening into their conversation. He knew for a fact that he had mentioned to Paula that he wanted to be with her. And now he felt as if he wanted to desperately marry her and for those girls to be his as well. He loved her to pieces and he knew that he would be that type of father that the girls were looking for. He would be supporting, loving, caring and he would also treat them as if they were his real kids and not his stepdaughters. Now wasn't the time for "if he was" but it was time for phrases like "he would be" and "when he is". It was time to show her that she was the man that she had been searching for. After the talk was over and their eyes were bright red from all of their weeping, Paula opened the door to find Simon standing in the door frame.
"Um were you listening to our conversation?"
"No not at all, love."
"So is there something that you want to tell me?"
"Yes, supper's ready."
"Okay come on girls let's go."
"Actually girls your Mum and I will be down in a few minutes."
Holly smiled at them. "Okay, you two take all the time you need."
"So what's up?"
"I love you and I'll do anything that I can to make you happy."
"Thanks that means a lot to me."
"You're more than welcome love. But do you remember when you needed to find more father figures for your daughters?"
"Yes what about it?"
"Well I was wondering if I could be a father figure for them."
"Wait I thought that you were already one?"
'Actually I never wanted to be just a figure, I wanted to their Dad.' He wanted to tell her that but was it a good time to blurt out the truth? But without getting her more upset he just responded with a very simple answer.
