When Simon pulled up to Paula's house, he was shocked that she hadn't arrived yet. But just then he saw a taxi pull up. She got out of the taxi and walked up the pathway to the porch. He then got out of his car and followed her up to the house. He could see that she had been crying because her makeup was running and giving her eye lids a black tone to them. He was going to ask her what happened but he wasn't sure how she was going to take it. But he felt like he needed to take that risk because she was important to him.
"Why did you run off at the restaurant?"
She looked up at him with painful eyes and then slowly lowered her head. Then she made her way to the chair right next to the front door. He walked over to the chair next to hers to clear his head. After a couple of minutes of complete silence, he tried a different approach. He placed his hand on her back and whispered in her ear to look at him. She was very hurt but decided to listen to him because maybe he was going to ask her out this time.
"Why won't you talk or even look at me?"
"What would you like to talk about?"
"Why does it look like you've cried recently, love?"
"I don't know, Simon because maybe I just did. Okay look I'm going in so you can come in if you like."
"No you are not getting out of this discussion until you give me a reason why you are upset right now."
"I cried because I felt like it and I'm upset because I want to be. Is that good enough for you?"
He was shocked that she would snap at him like that. He wanted to talk to her about it more but the last thing that he wanted to do was to get her more upset. He also wanted to be the one to comfort her and not the one to hurt her emotionally. When she opened the door and nearly closed the door on his face, she saw that the kids were hiding the fact that had been spying on them the whole time and acting as if they were playing Twister. Randy knew that they had been at the window watching the whole thing go down on the porch, but kept it a secret because it seemed like the two of them had bigger things to worry about than that.
"Hey guys! How did your night go?" Paula asked trying to act as if she was in high spirits.
"Great, so how was your date?" Holly asked smiling from ear to ear.
"It was okay," Paula replied.
"Daddy she slept the whole time," Dylan replied as he approached him.
"Wow she must be tired, thanks again," Simon said trying to smile and acting as if everything was okay.
"You're welcome," Randy replied as he was handed a hundred dollar bill.
After Simon left while carrying his daughter and carrying her chair as well, he forgot that Dylan was still inside talking to Holly and Lily about something. So after he put his daughter in the car he rushed back into the house to get his son. Soon after they left, Randy left and the girls were off to bed, but before Paula turned off their bedroom lights, they started up a conversation with her.
"Mommy did anything happen tonight?" Lily asked curiously.
"No why would you think that?" Paula asked while tucking Lily into her bed.
"When you two came in tonight, you guys weren't saying a word to each other," Lily said.
"He was in a hurry," Paula said making up an excuse.
"But you could have said goodbye," Lily replied.
"Like I said honey, he was in a hurry," Paula replied knowing that Lily didn't believe her.
