He followed his son up the stairs and busted through the door to see his Mom trying to calm his daughter down.
"Mum, what's going on?"
"Well I was keeping an eye on her and she began to scratch her chest. So I took her shirt off to find that her poor chest is a beaming red."
"Okay which means?"
"Darling, I'm no doctor but this looks like a chest infection to me."
Simon rushed over to the oxygen tank and turned it on. Then he gave the mask to his mom for her to safety put and fastened it onto Rochelle. He quickly ran full speed to his master bedroom to get the upstairs phone located on his nightstand. His hands began to shock as he dialed 9-1-1 into the phone. When the dispatch had answered the phone, he tried to calm down so that he could listen to what the instructions would be.
"Hello 9-1-1. What is your emergency?"
"Yes hello. My daughter's chest is bright red and I believe that she has a chest infection."
"Okay sir I want you to check if you can feel her heart beat."
He ran full speed back into her bedroom. He placed his left hand on her chest to discover that she was breathing.
"Yes she does."
"Okay sir has she had a cold or fever recently?"
"No she's healthy."
He knew for a fact that she hadn't because she had been playing with Dylan and the girls in the backyard earlier that day. Now he was starting to panic because he had no idea what was occurring right in front of him.
"Okay sir, I need for you to answer this question honestly. Have you seen an improvement in your daughter's condition since this call began?"
"No I haven't."
"Okay an ambulance is on its way and it should be there in a few minutes."
He thanked her for her help. And with that he lowered the phone from his ear and pushed the red button to end the call.
"What's going on in here?" Paula asked wondering because she could see fear in Simon's eyes.
"Love, we believe that she has a chest infection. The ambulance will be here soon to take her to the hospital." Simon said basically giving her the 411.
"Oh no, is there anything that I can do for you?"
"Yes, darling I want you to stay here with the kids. I'll call you when the update."
"Okay."
Before long the ambulance arrived with a gurney and carefully strapped her in before exiting the house and making their way back to the ambulance. Simon kissed Paula one last time before getting in the back of the ambulance. He sat down on the provided bench but out of the way so that the men could do their job. As soon as the doors closed, they started their own treatment. As they arrived to the emergency room they had gotten her heart rate down and under control as she was nervous or afraid. They took the gurney to one of the many operation rooms in the hospital.
Simon couldn't go with them so he walked to the nearby waiting room. Before he knew it, one of his daughter's doctors approached him. He had both good and bad news to share with him. First he told him that they had caught it in time before it got any worse. Second he explained that she had pneumonia. It had caused her chest infection in the first place and also it explained why she needed the oxygen mask earlier that night. The doctor told him that antibiotics would clear it right up.
