May of 2019
She frowned as she made her way over to us on the field, holding up the rolled up and tied with ribbon piece of paper. The paper was tied up pretty tight if you asked me. I got a tighter hold on Aura as I pulled her up a bit on my side so she could rest better on my hip. She's been crying the whole time since Kim wasn't right there next to her. She loved Kim. She was pretty pissed she couldn't actually go and sit with Kim during the ceremony.
"How come I'm the only one that got a diploma like this?" Kim questioned as she rolled the paper around in her hands. She reached out to tickle Aura as Jack laughed and came up to her side. He picked up the diploma and inspected the thing as Kim crossed her arms over her chest. "They're your parents." Kim sighed as she threw a hand out in my and Chase's direction. "Ask them."
"They're probably playing a prank on you." I said. In all honestly, that was probably it. After all these years, Kim had made a place for herself in this weird little family of ours. Our parents considered Kim as one of their own. She and Jack had actually moved into Chase and I's old apartment. They were going to buy it from us before Jack suggested that they buy their own house somewhere near all of our's. Chase and I still had to surprise them with a special piece of information later on. Kind of a graduation present for Kim if you asked me.
"They gave Jack a regular diploma when he graduated." Chase pointed out as Adam and Leo made their way over.
"Jannel and Caitlyn are headed back to the houses to set up for the graduation party." Leo relayed with a big sigh as he reached out for Aura. "Gimme." He ordered. Aura let go of me, practically lunging into Leo's arms. This kid... Literally.
"Fine." I huffed as I handed Aura over to him. She was being a bratty little almost-two year old. She'll be quite social if you asked me. Though she did look a lot like Chase, she could have taken after his smarts. "They've got the spare keys to our house, right?" Leo nodded.
"They've got Tasha and Amy setting up tables in the backyard by the lake already. They just needed to pick up the cake and put the babies to sleep upstairs in the playroom." Chase and I had sectioned off a portion of the house upstairs to the kids simply because everyone came over so often. The babies all needed their own place to play, too.
"Why is my diploma like this?" Kim prodded again as she ripped it out of Jack's hands. It was hard to believe Kim was already graduated. The past four years we had spent with her had gone so quick. "Everyone else got one that was matted down in a leather book thing." She whined again.
"Well maybe this will make up for it." I led in as I handed her a small envelope. She frowned and took the envelope from me, opening the top to see the picture inside.
"It's a house." She affirmed as she flipped it over to see the address. "It's our house?" She asked warily. I nodded, holding out my arms for her as she raced over to give me a hug.
"We couldn't have you two living on another undeveloped street, could we?" I whispered, Kim pulled back and mouthing a quick thank you to me. I nodded, quickly taking the diploma from her.
"You guys are amazing." Jack sighed as he looked over the picture. He held out his hand to Chase to shake it. Oh guys, just hug it out. We all know you have a bromance going. "Thank you." Chase nodded.I laughed before narrowing my eyes in on the rolled up diploma. That wasn't on there before.
"What's that?" I asked, handing the diploma back to Kim. She frowned and pulled the diploma up to her face. Kim let her fingers play with the ribbon before her eyes went wide.
"That's a ring." She froze, letting out a quick breath as Jack began to kneel down to the ground. He settled on one knee as he picked up the diploma out of her hands again. He smiled up at Kim as Adam pulled out his camera.
"Good thinking." I nodded to him, getting a wide smile back as he started recording.
"Kimberly Beulah Crawford," Jack started with a wide grin. That was her middle name? I really didn't know Kim that well. He quickly pulled the ring from the ribbon, then after rolling out the paper. "We've had one of the longest, and best relationships that either of us have ever had. You're one of the most amazing people I've ever met, and I don't plan on losing you any time soon." He stopped as he turned the paper Kim's way. I walked around, feeling a huge smile hit my face at the little sign. "Will you marry me?" He asked hopefully, reading off of the sign.
"Yes." Kim smiled as she held out her hand to Jack.
"That was adorable." Leo said happily as Jack stood up to Kim. I walked back over to Leo, sending him a knowing look with the help of Adam and Chase. "What? It really was. I have the ability to recognize cute things."
