Chapter 40
~Eliana's P.O.V.~
After many days of peaceful travel we were nearing Helms Deep. The sun was high in the sky, signaling that it was noon. The women and children were walking slowly, keeping a slow pace with the rest of the group. I kept to myself as I could hear Gimli speaking to Eowyn about dwarf women.
"It's true you don't see many dwarf women and in fact they are so alike in voice and appearance they are often mistaken for dwarf men" Gimli said.
I could see Eowyn smile and turn to Aragorn.
"It's the beards" Aragorn said quietly and hand motioned a beard.
Eowyn shushed him and tried to hold in her laugh.
"This in turn has given rise to the belief that there are no Dwarf women and the Dwarves just spring out of holes in the ground!" Gimli said loudly.
This time Eowyn burst out into laughter along with Gimli.
"Which is of course ridiculous!" Gimli stated.
The horse then suddenly screeched and skidded forward in a quick pace, causing Gimli to fall off the horse. Eowyn laughed harder and she ran after the fallen Gimli. Many people were whispering things to one another as this happened. I found it hard to keep in my laughter. I was laughing lightly which earned me a loving smile from Legolas and a glare from Gimli.
"It's alright! it's all right! nobody panic that was deliberate it was deliberate" Gimli said as Eowyn helped him up.
I could see Aragorn laugh lightly and I saw Eowyn smile. Aragorn's smile soon faded along with Eowyn's. We had stopped for the night. The women and children were either eating food or sleeping soundly. I stood on my own perched atop a tree, listening to their soft singing. I was even having an intimate conversation with one of the trees. They had told me stories of how Linfia was doing fine and how the people miss me so much. The trees had even told me a message that my father had wanted to tell me. His message was plain and simple, be careful my dear Eliana, be careful. I was beginning to miss father and home, but there were things to be done. I felt a warm body press against me softly, I didn't bother to turn around because I knew who it was.
~You should be getting rest Eliana~ Legolas whispered lightly in my ear.
I smiled and pressed myself closer to Legolas. ~Not without you~
Legolas gently caressed my cheek with his hand and brought his lips to mine. I slowly wrapped my hands around his neck and deepened our kiss. I pressed myself closer to Legolas as I felt his lips trail to my neck making me shiver slightly. Legolas chuckled lightly and pulled away and kissed my lips once more.
~You need to rest Eliana~ Legolas said as he jumped down from the tree.
I let out a content sigh and agreed with Legolas. I jumped off the tree and followed Legolas to a small fire, where there was already a bed laid down for me. Legolas kissed my lips once again as I lied down.
~Sleep love...I shall wake you tomorrow~ Legolas said as he walked away.
I had fallen asleep quickly and was awoken the next day at dawn by Legolas. The women and soldiers were packing up the things to continue the journey. When we began moving again, Legolas this time had chosen not to ride his horse. Instead he scouted ahead on foot while I looked after Arod.
