“Can I have your jacket?” Alex asked Miguel as they exited the hospital. The cool breeze was caressing her skin leaving traces of goose bumps. She just remembered she was only wearing a knee-high strapless black dress.
“Oh yeah! Here.” Miguel quickly removed his jacket and placed it on her shoulder.
“Thank you!” Alex smiled and fixed the jacket on her slim freezing body. They’ve just come from the ER. It was only wound cleaning that was done, no stitches, just a couple of butterfly tapes to help close the wound. Pero just in case, nilagyan nung nurse ng bandage on top.
“Where’d you learn to punch like that?” Nakangiting tanong ni Miguel habang naglalakad sila papuntang parking area. “Parang professional lang ah.”
“Movies…“ Alex answered and laughed heartily sabay tingin kay Miguel. Nakatitig din sa kanya ang binata, amusement in his eyes, parang hindi naniniwala.
“No really, I watch tons of action movies; it was just natural to do it in reality.” She explained with hints of wit in her voice.
“Yeah right!” Miguel rolled his eyes. “But next time, don’t do things like that, you’ll just hurt yourself.” He was quick to add seriously.
Mas lalong tumawa si Alex. “You sound like my grandpa Migz!”. Walang tigil sa pagtawa ito.
“Crazy girl!” Sabay gulo sa buhok ni Alex. “Just a friendly reminder from… “
Ring... Ring... Ring...
It was Miguel’s phone ringing. He looked at the caller then gave the keys to Alex afterwards. “Just wait in the car, give me a few minutes.” Dagdag nito at lumayo ng konti.
“Okay… “ Sumakay na si Alex sa sasakyan.
“Hello!” Malamig na sagot ni Miguel sa kung sino mang tumatawag.
“Babe… Hmmm, where are you? Why haven’t you called me? Kanina pa kita inaantay dito sa bahay eh.” Malambing ang boses ng nasa kabila. “Sorry na sa pagiging childish ko kagabi. Alam mo naman I just love you so much kaya ganito ako. Peace na tayo babe, please?” He could imagine how Kathleen looked now. Begging and pouting.
“We’ll talk when I get there Kath. Gotta go…. “
“Hey wait babe! You love me right?” hindi napigilang itanong ni Kathleen.
Napatigil si Miguel. Kaharap nya lang ang kanyang sasakyan at bigla syang napatingin kay Alex who was writing something on a piece of paper. She probably felt his stare because tumingin din ito bigla sa kanya at ngumiti sabay kaway pa.
“We’ll talk later Kath.” Mahinang sagot ni Miguel at tuluyang inoff ang cellphone. He proceeded to his car and hopped in.
“What are you doing?” Tanong nito kay Alex.
“Nothing.” Pasimpleng sagot ng dalaga. She glanced at her watch. “Ey let’s go na, I still have class tomorrow.” Inayos na nito ang kanyang seatbelt.
Miguel started the engine when his phone rang again. Tinignan nya ito at nilagay na lang sa tabi ng manibela. Hindi nito sinagot.
“Not gonna answer?” Si Alex.
“Just show me where you live. I’m not very good with roads here.” Pag-iibang sagot nito.
The phone rang the second time. Hindi pa rin ito sinagot ni Miguel. Concentrate lang ito sa pagmamaneho.
