"Carter Woods! Nice to see you again," one of the guards said. I simply nodded at him. I didn't want anyone here to think we were friends. I was quite popular here, but that was only because I won a lot. They didn't actually like me.

"Hey Carter, let me know if you need anything, okay?" a girl said offered with a seductive voice. I only looked at her and walked away. The girls here were simply so the men here would spend more money. They were bait. Many of them tried to get with us fighters, but I never had an interest. Neither would I now.

I went deeper into the main room and more people greeted me. It was always like this. Especially the men that earned a lot of money on me greeted me. They bet on the fight and I was always safe to bet on. I'm not bragging, it was just the truth.

"Carter!" I heard Max's voice sound from my right. I looked at him and saw him, Tyler, some other guys I had seen before but didn't know the name off. They were sitting with a bunch of girls in a booth. I shook my head with a laugh. That was how I remembered them.

"What's up." I did handshakes with every one of them and sat down. I took a glass and poured in some vodka.

"Excited?" I gave a bored look, mimicking that I wasn't. They laughed and shook their heads.

"Do you need anything baby?" one of the girls asked. She was in black shorts and a really short black shirt. Her makeup was heavy and she probably looked a lot older than she was.

"I'm good," I said and looked away from her. She sighed and moved closer to me.

"Are you sure, babe?" I cringed at her, though I tried to hide it. Max laughed at the girl. He knew she was talking to a wall.

"Yeah, I'm sure," I said trying to make it obvious I didn't want her near me. She made an aw sound and moved even closer to me. Her hand slid over my chest and she kissed my neck. I quickly moved away from her touch.

"Don't touch me," I growled. She jumped away from me, scared of my voice and change of mood.

"Sorry, I thought you... Uhm sorry," she said and got away from me. I stood up and downed my glass. I nodded goodbye at the guys and walked away. Before I left I heard Tyler say, " He has a girlfriend, but come here, baby girl." The girl laughed and I figured she was already straddling his lap.

Having enough of this I walked to the locker rooms. Memories of Emily and I crashed through my mind. I nearly got dizzy from all of it. I sat down and put my face in my hands. I wasn't in the right state right now. Not to fight. Though I wasn't mentally ready I still had to fight. There was no question there. Of course, I had to do it.

I said and tried to mentally prepare me when Max came in. Tyler was right behind him.

"Ready?" I nodded. I was ready. "Do you wanna call her now? You're going in soon." I nodded and got out my phone. I dialed her well-known number and put the phone to my ear.

"Hey, baby. Yeah, I'm here. Okay, but you're gonna get Max on the phone and then I'll talk to you later. I will. Yes, I love you, too, baby." I heard laughing and I looked at the guys. Tyler was making a whipping motion and laughing out loud. Max was laughing too while he made a heart with his hands. He mouthed an 'I love you' to me. I rolled my eyes and shook my head. Idiots.

Emily's POV

"Okay, hand the phone to Max now. Be safe, Carter," I said and sat criss-cross down on my bed. He said goodbye and some muffled voices were heard. Some guys laughed and I figured it was Max and Tyler.

"Hey, Emily," I heard Max's voice on the phone. I instantly missed Carter's, but he had to look out for himself right now.

"Hi," I answered, feeling a little awkward. I had never talked to Max over the phone. Why would I have anyway?  I had actually never really spoken much with him before. I had, but not that much.
