"Daddy?"

"Hmm?"

"Where's mommy?"

Akira stopped working on the hovercraft, then sighed. "Keith..." He set his tools down and wiped his hands on his towel.  Once he turned, he saw Keith held the blanket his mother had made for him and tears were in his eyes.

"Where'd mommy go? She's not asleep or in the kitchen." He sniffled and rubbed at his nose. "I want mommy."

Akira knelt down in front of Keith and offered a smile. "Hey, buddy. I know you want your mom. Mom just... She wants you, too."

Keith hugged his blanket to his chest. "Then where she go?"

"She went up." Akira pointed to the sky and Keith looked up. "She went out there to protect you."

The little boy blinked, watching the clouds. "To protect me?" He asked.

Akira smiled and nodded. "Yes. You'll find her, someday. You wanna know how?"

Keith looked back to his father. "How?"

"With this." Akira pulled out a knife from the sheath connected to his tool belt. Keith's eyes widened and sparkled as he reached for it. "Mom left this just for you."

"For me?" Keith took the knife and held it up. "But mommy said I can't have knives. I could hurt myself."

Akira laughed and nodded. "She did. But this is special. Hold onto it. Don't loose it."

Keith looked back to his father, then grinned. "Okay!"
