Shiro would like to say he was following the stars, but he's not really a liar. He can read the stars, but he was listening to the GPS and Katie's music that blasted from her headphones. Aside from that, the truck was silent. Hunk and Lance were cuddled together, Lance's face stuffed in Hunk's chest. Keith leaned against the door, eyes closed and arms folded.
Allura and Coran followed in their mini-van. Shiro looked in his rear-view mirror to see Allura fast asleep in the passenger seat while Coran drove leisurely.
Shiro glanced over to Katie and smiled.
Katie stared up at the stars, mouthing along to the music she listed to. Her hair was pulled up into a messy bun, glasses crooked on her nose, and legs crossed. Her phone rested on her thigh, her hands tucked between her legs. Shiro looked to the road, reaching over to her with his prosthetic. He brushed his thumb over her elbow.
She glanced over to him, then shifted slightly. Katie raised her arm and slid it under his. She ran her fingers over the forearm of his prosthetic almost intimately. Shiro smiled, watching as she spread her palm flat over his, fingers slipping through his.
Both stayed quiet as Katie leaned on his shoulder. Katie tilted her head and kissed his prosthetic bicep. Shiro hummed, looked down to their entwined fingers. He raised her hand and placed a kiss to her knuckles, just under her wedding band.
Katie smiled, nuzzling his shoulder. Shiro chuckled, looking back at the road.
"How long until we reach the motel?" Katie murmured, nudging her headphones back.
"Half an hour." Shiro rubbed circles into the back of her hand.
"It's almost eleven. Will it still be open?"
"It should be. I looked it up." Shiro whispered with a nod in the direction of lights from a town. "Maybe less than half an hour."
Katie smiled, then gestured to the backseat. "Should we wake the children?"
Shiro laughed softly. "Yes. We should have them gather the things we're taking inside."

Once Shiro came out with the room keys, everyone headed off to their room. Keith, Hunk, and Lance had a room, Allura and Coran got a room, then Shiro and Katie got their own room.
"Ooh, they have robes!" Katie mused from the bathroom as Shiro dug through their dufflebags for pajamas. He chuckled and tossed the clothing onto the foot of their bed. "Oh, It's so soft and comfortable. I don't think they'd like it if I stole one, though."
"Yeah, don't do that." Shiro hummed, tugging his shirt off over his head. "Get in the shower, Katie."
"But what about you?"
"I'm making you something to eat, then I'll get in the shower while you're eating."
"That's no fun." She huffed, opening the bathroom door. "Come on, we've been on the road for days. Relax a little."
