Zombie apocalypse AU!
Keith sighed, letting his legs dangle down off the edge of the roof. A rifle lay across his lap, a dagger strapped to his hip and his sword in his hands. His surroundings were rather quiet. Only the breeze rustling in,the trees could be heard. Keith supposed that was a good thing.
No herd was nearby. Maybe just a straggler or two.
Keith raised his left hand, inspecting the nearly faded scar on his wrist. Teeth marks dented his pale skin, but he somehow wasn't infected.
Sickly, yes.
Dead and still walking, not unless he just woke up.
He doesn't crave living flesh like the undead, but anything that came from plants taste weird. Tastes different and slightly rotten, but he's used to it.
"You keep looking at that bite like you're expecting to turn."
Keith gasped and jumped, gripping the edge of the roof. "Lance! I didn't hear you!"
Lance chuckled, sitting beside him. "Sorry. Shiro said to take watch so you can rest."
The older hummed, looking back to the horizon. "Okay... Well, no herd... I haven't even seen stragglers. They all probably migrated to the city." Lance nodded, carefully taking the rifle. "Sun's about to set. You'll be okay on your own?"
"I'll be fine, dork." Lance huffed, nudging Keith. "Get on to bed."
Keith looked over to Lance. He raised a hand, placing his palm over Lance's cheek. "Be careful..."
"The undead can't climb, babe." Lance mused. "I'll be okay."
"I just wanted to be sure." Keith muttered, leaning closer. Lance hummed as Keith pressed his lips to his other cheek, close to his lips. "I love you."
"Love you, too." Lance whispered, returning a kiss to Keith's forehead. "Go on, now. I'll see you when Hunk takes his shift."

Their group started with just Pidge and the high school they holed up in. She was looking for her family, and she found a safe house in the high school.
Not long after securing the windows and doors, Pidge started a garden and let Allura and Coran in after they wondered up to the school. The girl then found Shiro and saved him on one of her scouts through the city. She had to cut off his arm up to his shoulder because his forearm was torn basically to shreds from being caught in barbed wire and an undead's jaw and claws.
Pidge found more people and built Shiro a makeshift prosthetic. Sometime later, Hunk and Lance joined, Slav, then later, Keith. It's been three years, and she's still found no trace of her family.
Keith feels bad for her. All his family died before any of this had even started.
However now their group was down to just him, Pidge, Allura and Coran, Shiro, Lance, Hunk, somehow Slav, and Lance's cow, Kaltenecker. Pidge's dog, Rover, was killed in an attack not long after Keith joined.
They all lived in this small, country-side high school. They each bunked up in the classrooms, Lance and Keith sharing once they got together.
