Don't you just love the smell of rain when it hits the soil? So powerful and yet so calm... I'm in my bed, listening to the rain tapping on my window while my dog is laying next to me enjoying my caress. I've never been an ordinary kid. I always felt like I had the soul of an eighty year old trapped in my teenage body.

Maybe it was due to my troubled family that I had to grow up so fast

Maybe it was due to my troubled family that I had to grow up so fast. Maybe it was just the way I've been created by God himself. In the beginning everything was really great. My family was loving, caring. My mother was a very sweet person, hard working, and an excellent cook. My dad was an all time serious guy when he was outside of our home.

The moment he was inside though, it was like he was putting down his mask. He would run and fall on the floor rolling with my two brothers while he was carrying me on his big arms and throwing me up in the air making me laugh hysterically. No matter how difficult their day was, they would always find time for me and the boys. They would play with us, ask us about our day and our troubles. We would never go to sleep with a broken heart or a tear in our eyes. God I loved them so much.

Unfortunately, sometimes life has other plans for us. She laughs at our faces and kicks us in the ground. I would had never guessed what she has in store for me.

Suddenly, I heard a thunder crash, soon followed by a lightning striking the ground leaving my poor dog Angus barking like crazy to the window, and running around himself. I couldn't help it but laugh at how silly he was looking.

"Angus! You old thing, still not used to the storms?"

He was wagging his tail slowly, coming towards me, begging for a hug. I can not believe how brave my dog is when it comes to humans and in what a little coward he turns when he has to deal with nature!

I tap my hand gently on my bed and Angus jumps instantly on me putting his little face on my lap. I can't help but take his face in my hands and place a small kiss between his eyes. Angus is a stray dog, he looks like a border collie. He has one green and one blue eye. He's mostly black and has a huge white stripe between his eyes.

We had gone for a walk to the park in the afternoon when my dad came home from his work. Suddenly we saw a big pile of leaves moving. In the beginning we thought that it would be rats or a stray cat or something but instead we heard a little whining coming between the leaves. My dad moved hesitantly towards it making funny noises to make him come out of there.
