A Second Chance

I was so sure

"Are you okay?" Jessica pulls away and looks at Danny.

"Yeah.. Yeah, I'm fine. You're not pregnant, it's great." He forces a smile and slides his hands down her sides.

"Daniel.."

"No Jess, I'm fine."

"You really wanted a baby, didn't you?"

He looks into her eyes and nods.

"Yeah. I did."

"I'm sorry."

"It's fine.. Jess?"

"Yeah?"

"Nevermind."

"No, what is it?"

"Would you even want a baby? Not now, I know.. But the twins are in college and the boys will be out of the house in two years.. Then it's just you me and Grayson.. I think he'd love a little brother or sister."

"Danny, no.  I'm exhausted with the ones I have now.  Grayson alone keeps me busy."

"But I'm here to help you."

"Danny.."

"It's just crazy.. I was so sure that you were pregnant."

"I know.
You seemed so happy.."

"I was!  We have kids of our own, I just think it would be so amazing to have one together."

"I'm sorry.."

Danny was upset and her response, but he wasn't going to keep going on about it.

Danny looked down when he felt someone holding onto his leg.

"Hey buddy!" He smiles.

"Danny!" Grayson gets excited and lifts his arms up to him.

Danny lifts him up and Grayson lays on him.

"Lub you.. I lub you.."

"Awe!  I love you too, Gray."

Jessica watches them with a smile on her face.

They hear a knock on the door, so they walk back into the bedroom.

"Come in!" Jessica says.

"Hey.." Michael walks in awkwardly.

"We're coming, I'm sorry, baby!"

"It's okay."

"Is everything okay, Mike?" Danny asks.

"Yeah uh.. I was just wondering..."

"What?" Jessica asks concerned.

"Um.."

"Mikey, what is it?" Danny chuckles.

"Is mom pregnant?"

"No, why would you ask that?!" Jessica asks.

"I heard you and Danny talking."

"Oh!  No honey, I'm not."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes.  I took a test and it was negative."

"Oh!  Well okay, I was just wondering."

Jessica giggles and Grayson yells out, "MIKEY!"

Michael chuckles and takes him from Danny.

"Come here, you little goofball!"
