A Second Chance

Just a week

March 22nd.

It was the beginning of spring break, and the day before Sam's fourth anniversary.  Jessica was going to be driving to see Sam's family, and Danny and Zachary were going to be spending time with his family.
This was the first time they went to see Sam's family since he passed, and Grayson's first time ever going.

"Mom, I'm kinda nervous to be back around dad's family.. It's been a while since we've all been together. We haven't been to Aunt Naomi's since dad came with us... What if it brings back memories that.. I don't know.."

"Michael honey, the memories are good for us! Remembering the little getaways we used to take as a family is good."

"I know.. How is it possible that tomorrow is four years since he left. It feels like just yesterday."

Jessica nods and places her palm on his cheek.
"I know, baby. It's crazy."

I'm happy to see everyone and that grandma is going too.. It'll almost feel like old times." Michael looks down.

"Yeah." She says rubbing her thumb back and forth on his cheek.

"Plus it'll be good for Grayson to see daddy's family."

"That's true. They can tell him the stories of all the goofy things dad did." Michael smiles.

"Yes, and there are a lot of them." Jessica laughs.

"Heh.. I love you, mom."

"I love you more, baby."

"Bye baby, I'll miss you." Jessica says giving soft kisses to Danny's lips.

"I'll miss you too.  I'll call you everyday."

"You promise?"

"I promise."

"Okay.. You boys have a good time, and behave yourselves!" Jessica points her finger to Danny.

"We will, honey."

"Bye Zach." She says walking over to hug him.

"Bye Jessie, you all have a safe trip."

Jessica holds her palms on his cheeks and tears up.

"Ma, what's wrong?"

"I'm gonna miss you!"

"I'll miss you too, but it's just a week.  I'll call you everyday too." He smiles.

"Okay.. I love you."

"I love you too, mom."

"Oh I love it when he calls me mom!" Jessica hugs him tightly and a tear rolls down her cheek.

Zachary chuckles and Danny smiles watching the both of them.

"Oh my gosh, you're here!" Sam's sister Naomi runs over and greets everyone.

"Grayson! Oh my goodness! I haven't seen you since you were just a baby!"

"I not a baby no more!"

"Haha! No you're not a baby anymore! Oh but you're so cute! You look just like your daddy, little boy!"

"Yeah! My dada's name is Sam!"
