"Regardless of whether you vie for the promotion or not, the company will still support you during your pregnancy.", patuloy pa ni Miss Gonzales sa pagpapaliwanag. "SSE has the best benefits among the top companies here in the Philippines when it comes to pregnant women and single parents, you know."

Napangiti si Avery sa tinuran ni Miss Gonzales. How lucky is she na hindi na man pala siya tatanggalin sa trabaho. Bagkus, it boosted her confidence dahil she got closer to a promotion.

"What do I have to do for that promotion then, Miss Gonzales?", tanong niya.

"You are currently handling a project, correct?", kumpirma ng babae sa kanya. "And it is supposed to go live around August? If you are three months pregnant now, you'd be giving birth around July. Can you still guarantee the success of your project despite that, Miss Montejo? If you can, you'd have a better chance at the promotion compared to the four other candidates na pinagpipilian."

"I'm quite confident with our current project, Miss Gonzales.", confident na sabi niya while flashing a victorious smile to her manager. Out of all the projects she handled, this current project is actually the one na malakas ang tiwala niya na mag-hit sa market. "Sign me up for that promotion then."

"That's good to hear.", lumawak ang ngiti nito at tumayo upang makipagkamay sa kanya. "Knock them dead."

"With pleasure.", sabi niya at nakipag-kamay rin dito.

Malakas na palakpakan ang sumalubong sa kanya pagkabalik niya sa kanilang workspace. It seems na narinig na ng kanyang team ang balita tungkol sa posibleng promotion niya.

"Miss Avery, congrats!", nakangiting bati ng mga ito sa kanya.

Ginantihan din niya ng isang matamis na ngiti ang mga ito. Kahit pa hindi pa set in stone ang promotion niya, hindi niya pa rin maiwasan ang matuwa dahil na rin sa ganda ng opportunity na maari niyang makuha.

"It's not yet set in stone kaya kalma lang tayo, guys.", sabi pa niya sa mga ito. "May promotion man o wala, let us stick to our timeline and standards for our current project. That's all that matters."

"Yes miss!"

Nagsibalikan na rin kaagad ang mga team members niya sa kani-kanilang table. Mukhang ginanahan sin ang mga ito na mag-trabaho dahil sa narinig na balita. Of course, kapag na-promote siya, it also means that someone from the team will get promoted. May chain reaction, kung baga.

Siya naman ay nagtungo sa comfort room. Hindi alam ni Avery if it's because buntis siya or not but napapansin niya talaga na napapadalas ang pag-ihi niya these past days. Dahil ayaw niyang madistorbo mamaya while working, pupunta na lang siya ng CR ngayon na.

Nasa loob siya ng cubicle nang marinig niyang may ibang taon pumasok.

"Heard that Miss Avery is one of the candidates for a promotion.", rinig niyang sabi ng isang malanding boses.

"Yes.", sagot naman nung isa. "Miss Gonzales confirmed it herself."

"Paano ba yan, girl? Mukhang mahihirapan kang makuha ang promotion. Malakas yang kalaban mo eh."

"Doesn't matter.", sabi ng mataray na ikatlong boses na narinig niya. "If she gets in my way, she better get ready for the consequences."

Hinintay muna niyang umalis ang tatlong kontrabida sa comfort room bago siya lumabas. Naka-angat ang kilay at nakahalukikip siyang nakatingin sa pinto. May malalim siyang iniisip.

Of course, kilala niya ang boses ng tatlong babaeng pinag-uusapan siya kanina. Yung mataray na boses ay ang leader ng team na kakompetensiya ng team niya. The other two ay ang ever loyal na mga alipores nito.

Hindi niya nagustuhan ang tono ng pag-uusap ng tatlong plastik. Oo, plastik dahil sila yung tipo ng mga tao na mabait lang kapag kaharap ka ngunit sasaksakin ka kapag nakatalikod ka naman. These three girl's rotten personalities are open secrets within the office.

Hindi sila kilala personally ni Avery so she really doesn't deserve to be talked about in that way.

Napabuntong-hininga na lamang si Avery.

Looks like she has to watch her back now.
