Throughout the next week, every minute of your time was spent planning and getting ready. You knew that, in your weakened, depressed state, you didn't stand a chance. You also knew you needed more than a week to regain yourself, but that was all you were willing to allow yourself to do.
In that time, you'd been practically living in the garage. Beth was letting you stay, after you'd said you were working on a really big, important project, and you were using Rick's room. Every once in a while, when you tinkered in the garage and nobody was home, you'd sit and scroll through the photos in Rick's secret device. It would make you smile, especially when Rick was in the photo, smiling with you.
Currently, you were at his desk, inspecting his portal gun. You paused and pulled out your phone, going into your photo app and pulling up a specific folder. Three days ago had been the first time you'd opened the album in a while. You were hit with a wave of emotion as you went through, smiling at every picture of Rick. You were staring at one of the last few taken, of you and Rick in the living room after you'd gone out to dinner. You had made that goofy face, while he was staring off into space, obviously lost in thought.
"I'm coming for you, ya crank-ass mofo." You shut your phone off and put it to your side on the desk when you heard voices in the house. The door opened and Summer poked her head in. Ever since Rick was gone, Morty had been bonding with Jerry more, and you found that you could no longer be friends with either of them for saying and doing what they were.
"Hey, (Y/N). You look happy. Better than I've seen in a while," Summer smiled. You nodded, returning a grin of your own, "I'm just enjoying myself now. I've got a big project going, and I know boss would be proud." Summer wandered in and looked at the photo cube. "You been scrolling through again?"
You nodded, picking the small cube up and putting it back in your pocket, the same place it'd been in ever since you found it. "Yea. I've been going through the ones on my phone, too. I hope he'd been doing alright." You smiled sadly before going back to inspecting the portal gun.
"Hey, (Y/N)?" You paused and set down the screwdriver, "Yea?"
"I know what you're up to. The others might not be as smart, but I know. I had to rescue him, which I know he told you. I'm not gonna say 'don't do it', but I will say this." She put a hand on her hip, "We love you. We know how much you hate the word, but we do. If you're gonna do this, you're gonna come back to us. We couldn't stand losing another scientist. So, you know, be smart. Kick ass and bring him back to us, (Y/N), but don't you die."
You grinned widely up at Summer, excited for what was to come and thankful for her little speech. "Thank you, Summer. I'll give it my all to bring boss back to you." Summer leaned down and pulled you into a quick hug before she bounced off and ran into the house.
As she walked out of the room, you set the portal gun aside and decided to work on perfecting everything else. You opened the largest drawer and pulled out the arrangement of weapons.
"Big guns, little guns, perfect guns, we got all your ass kicking needs!" You grabbed one and looked it over, running your fingers along its smooth surface, "Come on down, I'm sure we got it all."
With an almost evil smirk, you looked over the arrangement. You had bomb bombs, glitter bombs, confetti bombs. Let's just say you're going out with a bang, that's for sure.
You placed all the objects back in the drawer and closed it with a confident grin. You were ready. You even had a special outfit planned for the occasion. With one last cheeky grin, you stood from the desk, pushed the chair in, and joined the family for dinner. You didn't know if you'd make it back, so why not give them a nice time? Just like Rick had done, all that time ago.
"Hello, (Y/N)." Beth smiled warmly, "I made your favorite. Spaghetti, with extra cheese." You smiled up at Beth as you sat, "Thanks, ma'am."
When she sat, she addressed you again, "So, (Y/N), you've been doing much better. What have you been working on so much?" You sat up straight and swallowed the mouthful of spaghetti, "Just an interplanetary transmitting device. Boss said he's perfected one of his own, once upon a time, but he left without showing me how, or giving me blueprints." You shrugged, "Nothing too big."
"Well that sounds really nice." You gave Beth an affirming smile as you listened to Morty and his father 'quietly' discuss how you needed to just give it up. You glared at them both and watched them shrink away from each other, embarrassed.
You enjoyed the meal, talking and laughing with the family. It was true, you had gotten better. You had even cracked a few jokes, gaining laughs from Beth and Summer as Morty and Jerry didn't want to admit that you were still funny, stifling their laughs and pretending to not care.
"Summer, Morty," you said his name with ice in your voice, "would you please join me in the garage? I have to talk to you." Summer quickly stood and took care of her plate before walking to your side. Morty gave you a wary look. You returned it with a harsh glare and watched as he stumbled around, clearing his plate before standing near you, yet as far away as he could. You chuckled and ushered the two to what had basically become your garage.
"Alright, guys, I'ma need your help real quick."
