Wait, what? WHAT? What am I hearing?

*shakes phone*

The wizarding world was being pulled from retirement. A new movie based on the easily insignificant Hogwarts textbook for charity, FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM, was getting its own spinoff movie. How? It's like 100 pages long...

Harry is coming out of retirement, too??? There's going to be a... A play? WHAAAAAAA!!!???

*throws phone and IMMEDIATELY chases it down*

What about all that All Was Well business? It All Ends? This doesn't look anything like The End. But who cares!

Internally, across the fanbase, that lasting sense of stability and security felt by the fans when they had closed the book and saw the last film was immediately stripped away. Now, don't get me wrong...I was beyond excited. I think most people were. But that did come with a twinge of trepidation. Because, what exactly were we getting here?

The official announcement came five days before Christmas 2013, when J.K. Rowling made a statement on Facebook. She was collaborating with the award-winning theater producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender on a new play. It would "explore the previously untold story" of Harry Potter "a seemingly ordinary boy", and his "early years as an orphan and outcast" living in the Muggle world. It would "offer a unique insight into the heart and mind of the now legendary young wizard."

Oh.

Emm.

Geeeeh.

JKR is set to be a co-producer. Would she be writing this play? Yes, tell me yes. No, she would not write the script herself. Oh-kay, fine. That's fine, right? She would be collaborating with a new writer who had yet to be chosen. ooo OOOO oooooo. Tell me what she said about this... EXACTLY! I'm FREAKING OUT!

"Over the years, I have received countless approaches about turning Harry Potter into a theatrical production, but Sonia and Colin's vision was the only one that really made sense to me, and which had the sensitivity, intensity, and intimacy I thought appropriate for bringing Harry's story to the stage."

This had been in the works for a year and would start development in 2014. YAAAASSSS! Thank you, Sonia and Colin, whoever you are! And your sensible vision! So we're getting Harry's early years? How flipping cool! Little Harry again, the Dursleys, bumbling Dudley, maybe Aunt Marge, Harry's other friends, primary school, definitely some accidental magic, Number Four Privet Drive, the... the cupboard... under the stairs.

Can we flip out?
