Harry gives McGonagall the Marauder's Map, which shows the movements of everyone in Hogwarts, so she can make sure that Albus and Scorpius stay far apart. At first, McGonagall declines to use it. She doesn't think that Albus has a black cloud around him, so Harry tells her about his conversation with Dumbledore. McGonagall reminds Harry that Dumbledore died many years ago and that the portrait is simply enchanted. Harry threatens her to use the map or he will return to the school with the full force of the Ministry! She agrees, grudgingly.

Albus enters the classroom for Defense Against the Dark Arts, where he finds his "Aunt" Hermione. Sounding very much like Professor Snape, she tells Albus that he must refer to her as Professor Granger. While she explains the Patronus Charm to the class, Albus continues to express confusion. Hermione gets irritated and deducts house points from Gryffindor. Albus can't believe how mean Hermione is acting, so she deducts twenty more points to confirm that she is, indeed, mean.

Scorpius looks for Albus all around Hogwarts. When they finally meet, Albus avoids him and refuses to acknowledge his friend. Albus is clearly unhappy and conflicted.

At the Potters' home, Harry and Ginny are having a discussion when Draco knocks on the front door. He enters and demands that Harry allow Albus and Scorpius to be friends. Harry says that he is only protecting his son from the black cloud that Bane described. Draco wants to know what Harry is implying. Harry dares to ask Draco if Scorpius is truly his son. Draco takes offense and they start dueling, only to be stopped by Ginny reentering the kitchen.

At Hogwarts, Delphi suddenly shows up and joins Scorpius on the staircase. She is amazed to see all the wonders inside the castle. Scorpius asks her if she had ever been a student at Hogwarts, and she tells him no. As a child, she was far too ill to attend the school. She then explains what went wrong with their plan. After Cedric lost the first task, it made him more motivated to win the second task. To fix the problem, they have to travel back in time again.

Draco apologizes to Ginny for destroying the kitchen, she jokes that it isn't her kitchen. Harry does most of the cooking. Then Draco confesses to Harry that he was always jealous of the friendship Harry had with Ron and Hermione. Ginny reveals that she felt the same way. Harry defends his actions to Draco. He needs to protect his son. Draco counters that his father tried to protect him, but his ideas caused Draco to be a lonely child. He insists that the black cloud Bane saw was loneliness. Harry thinks Draco may be right. Ginny insists that they travel back to Hogwarts.

Scorpius confronts Albus. They changed things and have to go back to fix them. Ron and Hermione never got married, meaning Rose and Hugo were never born. Originally, Hermione was supposed to go to the ball with Viktor Krum from Durmstrang, which caused Ron to grow jealous, and apparently this began their romance. However, in this alternate reality, she refused to go to the ball with Viktor because of two suspicious Durmstrang boys she saw during the first Triwizard task (aka Albus and Scorpius).

In the library, Professor McGonagall sees the boys together on the Marauder's Map and goes to tell them halfheartedly to separate. Albus hides under his brother's Invisibility Cloak with Scorpius and she ceases her search. Later, Albus says that the Ministry is investigating rumors of Scorpius' parentage, but Albus is certain that Voldemort is not the boy's father. Voldemort could never have a nice son like Scorpius. They decide to time travel to the second task in order to humiliate Cedric.

Ron is walking down the staircase when he bumps into Hermione. His son, Panju, got into trouble in Potions class by mixing the wrong ingredients, causing him to grow a large mustache. Ron tells her that his nephew, Albus Potter, was confused and said that the two of them were married with children. They both agreed that it was strange, since they're just friends. But there is clear tension.

Harry and Ginny arrive through a Hogwarts fireplace and Professor McGonagall says that she is done using the map to spy on the boys. Harry apologizes. He should've never threatened her. Then, Draco arrives, telling McGonagall that he needs to see his son. McGonagall activates the map and sees that they are both in the girls' bathroom.

Albus explains his plan to Scorpius. They have to travel back in time to the second task, where the competitors had to retrieve something from the lake. Cedric Diggory had used a Bubble-Head Charm, so all they have to do is engorge the bubble so he will float out of the lake. A jet of water emerges from the sink and the ghost of Moaning Myrtle appears. She takes offense at being called Moaning Myrtle and reminds them that her name is Myrtle Elizabeth Warren. It's been a long time since boys had visited her bathroom, and she flirts with them about how much she liked their dads and Cedric. Albus asks if she knows how they can use the bathroom pipes to escape to the lake. She points him to one of the sinks. Albus pulls out some Gillyweed, a plant that allows its user to breathe underwater. Before taking the Gillyweed, Albus reminds Scorpius that they only have five minutes before they return to the present.

They disappear down the bathroom pipes just as Harry, Draco, Ginny, and McGonagall arrive. Draco asks Myrtle how their sons are disappearing off the map, she tells them that they were using "a thingy" and their sons were trying to save a boy named Cedric Diggory. McGonagall reminds her that he died years ago, but Harry explains that Albus heard him talking to Amos Diggory. He knows that the Ministry has a Time-Turner.

Albus and Scorpius travel back to the second task of the Triwizard Tournament. The competitors had to retrieve a hostage underwater. Their plan to engorge the Bubble-Head Charm works. Cedric floats into the sky, just as fireworks boom over the crowd.

Scorpius cheers and returns to the surface. He is back in the present. Albus hasn't resurfaced yet, and Scorpius looks for him. Then the voice of a woman tells him to get out of the lake. It's Dolores Umbridge, the new Headmistress of Hogwarts. Scorpius tells her that he was looking for his friend, Albus Potter. Umbridge states that there hasn't been a Potter at Hogwarts for years. Harry Potter was defeated by Lord Voldemort in the Battle of Hogwarts twenty-two years ago.

Umbridge orders Scorpius out of the lake. He is upsetting the Dementors and ruining Voldemort Day.
