I am in shock. Right now, today. Currently. Disturbed.

As you've been made aware on numerous occasions, I'm a fan of both Star Wars and Harry Potter. Last night, those fandoms collided when breaking news came out of the UK that Jack Thorne - yes, the man who is considerably responsible for bungling the continuation of one massive franchise - is being handed the final film of the new Star Wars Trilogy, Episode IX.

I don't understand. Disney has so much money. And I know Jack Thorne has done good work on television, and I don't want to just smugly tear him down, but he has never handled a movie like Star Wars. And when it comes to handling a finely tuned canon, something as culturally significant as a franchise that borderlines on religion to its fanatics, he proved that he could not meet the challenge. And yeah, we're going to get to some of the glaring errors, plot conveniences, poor characterization, and mishandling of story elements very soon... believe me... but it's as if Disney was only looking at the fact that Cursed Child is a financial success, and not on what the fans think about Jack Thorne's treatment of our precious, precious world.

I know he's not solely responsible. I have an argument to make that JKR and John Tiffany were significant factors in what we got, but they both have made it clear that the writer, the one who took their ideas and gave us the Cursed Child script story, was Jack Thorne.
