Not yet, it gets better!

In April of 2014, one of the producers emphasized why his idea for the play appealed to JKR - because it was much different than what others had pitched.

Fans could expect "an intimate drama on the stage that would explore a side of Harry that hadn't been seen before". The story would "explore the emotional life of Harry in a way that it'll be different from what was in fact in the books or in the films." And he told us not to get dismayed because JKR was "centrally involved" in the production.

The intent was to "create a play that uniquely takes advantage of the intimacy and the immediacy of what you can do with a play with a live audience. So it's not going to be a big special effects play. It's an intimate personal drama about the boy who lived under the stairs."

Then in May of 2014, new reporting showed that John Tiffany, director of "Once" and "The Glass Menagerie", would be helming the play. A writer named Jack Thorne was being considered. And they reportedly met with JKR.

It's happening. This is happening.

More details. Tell me.

I NEED MOAR!

The play would be "exploring the story of Harry's parents Lily and James".

YES! Mr. and Mrs. P?? We might hear about dear Mum and Dad getting blown up in the car crash. Hah! Godric's Hollow. Maybe secret keeper stuff. Or Moony, Wormtail, and Padfoot stuff. The war, maybe the Order. I want to flip out. Are you going to let me? Come on!

Sure, there were concerns. Reports at the time showed that some of the fans were concerned that a play about Harry's life before Hogwarts would be "quite boring", but this isn't about that. It's going to put story above spectacle. They're going for sensitivity, intimacy, and drama that is appropriate for the stage. Potter was always more than a story for kids, right? We're good, fam. Chill and keep smiling. Yes, this is different than anything we've been given, but it doesn't hurt our seven books. All is still well. It did all end. This is just a glimpse of what came before. It will be magical. Of course, it will be.

Thank you, Queen Jo. Thank you, producers and new director. Thank you, gods of the wizarding world, if there are any.

We're getting a prequel, folks. An exquisite, majestic prequel!
