The Darkness Inside

Ch:32

I said "Aaron, dont take another step". He stood still like a statue. HIs paw was on a bear trap. If he moved his foot the trap would get him. Nick looked over and he said "Aaron you are so stupid". I said "no, he just wasnt paying attention".

I found a big rock and I put it in the trap by his foot. I said "ok, now on the count of 3 take your paw off. 1..2..3". He quickly lifted his paw up and the trap caught on the rock. Zak said "your one smart wolf Shelby". Aaron said "thanks Shelby". I heard a noise then I started to smell around. I said "dont thank me yet".

The smell was new. I followed the trail then my eyes popped wide open. Hunters were walking towards us. One saw me so he shot at me, but he missed. I turned around and I howled "RUN"! They all started to run in a pack. I said "we need to split up, we meet on the street in 5 minutes".

Nick and Aaron ran left while Zak and I ran to the right. The hunters split up into 2 groups. The guys who followed us screamed "kill em, there alpha's". One guy shot and it hit Zak in the paw. He tumbled onto to the ground so I grabbed him and I flung him over my back. I ran trying to confuse the hunters.

I looked over and I seen Nick and Aaron running towards us. We joined into one pack again then we ran out into the open. I shifted back to my human form and I ran with Zak in my arms. He was in his human for now too. Nick and Aaron ran infront of us then they changed too.

I helped Zak get into Nicks car. I said "dont worry, the hospital will patch ypu up, see you soon guys". Nick said "thanks Shelby". I said "just doing my job". I shut the door and I tapped the car. Nick pulled out onto the street and he sped down the road. I looked back towards the woods and the hunters were looking around.

I quickly ran to Devins house and I walked inside. I bumped into Josh and he started to wipe my face. He said "you have blood all over your mouth, go clean it off before any of the guys see". I ran to the bathroom and I grabbed a wash cloth. I got it wet then I dabbed it onto my mouth. The blood started to come off. I looked in the mirror and seen that it was almost gone.

When it was all of I decided to brush my teeth. I had to use my finger because I didnt want to use any of the guys toothbrushes. When I finished brushing my teeth I washed my finger off then I grabbed the mouthwash. I took a small sip then I gargled it in my mouth. It started to burn my mouth so I spit it into the sink. I set the mouthwash down then I looked at myself in the mirror.

I stared and looked to see who I was. I also thought about how lucky I was to have all of these people in my life. I lifted up my shirt and I stared at my scar. The scar just symbolized my loyalty and courage. It shows that I will do anything and everything I can to keep the people I love safe.

I brushed my hand over the scar. It was smooth and soft. It was bright red, but over time it would fade into a light pink color. The door knob opened and Chris came in. I quickly pulled my shirt down because I didnt want him to my scar. I was afraid that it would upset him again.

He asked "are you ok"? I said "yeah, just got done brushing my teeth". He walked over and he grabbed my hand. He asked "are you sure that your ok"? I said "yeah, I'm sure". I gave him a quick kiss on his lips then I walked out of the bathroom still holding onto his hand.

We walked into the living room and we sat on the couch. Someone knocked on the door so Devin walked over and opened it. It was the hunters. The one hunter asked "have you seen anything big and hairy, like a wolf, come through here"? Josh and I looked at eachother with a terrified look on our faces.

Devin said "look, I dont know what you guys are on or whats wrong with you, but I assure you that there are no wolves running around. The hunter said "not just any wolves, werewolves, and I believe that one is in your home". Devin laughed then he said "I can assure you that we are not werewolves. How bout you just go". The guy said "when you get ripped to shreds my one dont come crying to me".
