The Darkness Inside

Ch:30

Josh said "slow down speed racer". I smiled then I said "I cant, I just need to see Chris". Josh said "well hate to break it to you, but you might want to slow dont, there is a cop car coming up on your right". I pressed down on the breaks before the cop could see me.

I drove slowly pass him. Then when I drove down the hill I pressed my foot to the pedal again. I asked Josh how much longer should it take for me to get to Devin's house"? Josh said "about 5 more minutes". I sped up even more. Josh just sat back and smiled.

I seen Devins house so I pulled in and I got out of the car. I started to run, but Josh grabbed me. He said "let me go in first, you can hide behind me, he will be so surprised and happy". I said "ok, but make this quick, I missed him". Josh started to walk up the driveway and I stayed directly behind his. Since I was short, most people stood taller than me so it was no problem for me to hid behind him or anyone else.

Josh opened the door and he stood in the enterence. I heard Chris, it sounded like he was sitting on the couch. Chirs asked while he sniffed "how is she, is she ok"? Josh said "well maybe you should ask her for yourself". Chris said "I cant, I have no idea where she is, or I would".  He put his face in his hands and he began to cry again. I smiled as I stepped out from behind Josh because I knew that Chris would be so happy to see me.

I cleared my throat and Chris's face shot up out of his hands. His make-up was all runny, his eyes were puffy, and his cheeks were flushed. He just stared at me for a few seconds making sure that I was actually standing there. I smiled ever more as he ran over to me.

Chris scooped me up into his arms and he cried even harder into my shoulder. I wrapped my one arm around his neck while I rubbed his back with the other one. I said "it's ok babe, I'm here now". He held me tighter so I kissed his cheek.

I'm guessing the rest of the boys heard Chris run because they all peeked their heads out from the kitchen. Once they seen me they all came running over and we fromed a group hug. I smiled because I knew that these were my true brothers and my true pack, even if they werent wolves.

I looked at their faces and I noticed that their eyes were puffy too. I looked back at Josh and I asked "have they all been crying"? Josh said "yeah even me, but Chris was the worst". I looked at all of the guys then I said "I missed you guys". They all said "we missed you like crazy, especially Chris, as you can see".

Chris lifted his head and he cupped my cheeks in the hands. He brought my face close to his then he kissed me. I wrapped both arms around his neck now and I kissed him back. I felt some of his tears from his damp cheeks. Tears were still runnind down his face. I'm guessing these ones were tears fo joy.

I took my lips off of his to say "I love you Chris". He smiled and he said "I love you too, I love you so much Shelby, I thought I lost you". I hugged him tightly as I said "no you didnt, I'm right here babe, and it's gonna stay that way for awhile".

I wiped the tears from his cheeks then I said "cmon, lets get you something to eat, Josh told me that you wouldnt eat". Ricky said "yeah Chris cmon man, we'll make some lunch". I said "I'll help". Devin and Brandon blocked us from the kitchen. Brandon said "we got this". Ricky said "yeah, you and Chris need to spend some time together, so go over to the couch or something".

We walked over to the couch and we sat down. Chris asked me "wo what the hell happened to you"? His nose was stuffed and his eyes were just so poffy. I felt so bad for him. It killed me inside to see his like this, but it also made me happy because it showed me how much he cared about me.

I said "well I was walking down the street and I got mugged. Some guy pulled out a knife and he stabbed me in the stomach. He left me there to die. Luckily someone found me and brought me to the hospital". He said "well I'm just glad that your ok". I said "me too".
