Laurie's POV:

I wake up to my alarm going off and my siblings fighting. As usual. I get up and make my usual morning routine to get ready for school. Once I'm done, it's time for my dad to drive us to school. It's the same thing everyday.

I sigh and grab my things for next period. I then realise Daniel isn't here yet. That's weird he is always the first kid to arrive at school. Or at least one of the first ones.

I head to class and sit on my usual place. I wait and hope for Daniel to pass the classroom door before the bell goes off. Unfortunately, he didn't arrive yet.

I start to get worried mostly because if he doesn't come at school or arrives late, he would text me. This time it wasn't the case.

I spend the whole day by myself mostly because Daniel is my only real friend and I'm not really good at making new ones.

I try to contact him several times but he wouldn't answer my texts or respond to my calls. I shrug it off and head out of the school since the school-day is over.

I pass in front of my locker and realise Daniel's locker is empty. I have a bad vibe of what's going on. I frown, get my books and run to the bus before it leaves without me. It has happened to me a lot of times.

I climb inside the bus and sit near the window. The ride is very silent and boring. I continuously check my phone to see if there was any news about Daniel. There are no notifications on my phone screen so I sigh and stare at the window for the rest of the ride.

I arrive home and open the door. Suspiciously, the house was silent. I look around the kitchen and see no one was there.

I grab some food from the fridge, head to my room and lock myself. I put my bag down and call Daniel once again.

I hear a phone ring downstairs. I'm confused. I walk down the stairs slowly and walk towards the phone. I get a closer look of it and it was Daniel's Why would his phone be here?

I take it, keep it on my pocket and turn around. I look back up and gasp.

"Oh my god you scared me." I say putting my hand on my chest still being shocked. I see Daniel standing in front of me. "Sorry I didn't mean to scare you." He smiles shyly. "It's fine." I laugh and hug him.

"Why didn't you go to school today? Why didn't you answer my texts or calls?" I ask worried. "Something happened?" I stare in his beautiful blue eyes.

"Well I needed to tell you something but I have to tell you the 'big announcement' in person and I didn't want to explain via text message or phone-call." He explains. I nod.

"Well truth is, I'm not going to be at school for a few days and maybe a bit longer." He pauses looking at my reaction. I look a little disapointed but I keep my mouth shut and I let him proceed.

"I'm flying to San Francisco to audition for American Idol season XIV." He finally finishes.

I gasp surprised but happy at the same time. "Oh my god are you serious?" I ask jumping around the room.

"Yeah." He chuckles. "Dani this is amazing." I hug him.

"I was worried about your reaction." He says a bit nervous. "I didn't know how you would react you know, you'll be alone, school and stuff." I smile at him.

"Hey this is an amazing oportunity for you to pursue your dream and show your talent. You get to do what makes you happy. And if you're happy, I'm happy. I don't want to be the reason holding you back." I say.

He grins but a split second the smile turns into a frown. "But I want you to be happy doing what you love as well. You've always dreamt of auditioning on American Idol and performing on-stage. And plus, what if I don't make it? Can't you come and audition along with me?"

I laugh. "Of course you'll make it dumbie." I playfully hit the back of his head. "And I'm not ready to go on national television and it's your spotlight, I don't want to steal it." I flip my hair. Daniel laughs. "And plus, I'll perform on the talent show in school in two weeks. I'll be fine I swear."

I hug him again.

"When are you flying to San Fran?" I ask him. "Tomorrow. At 10 am." He responds looking at the floor. "Oh my that's so soon." I complain dramaticaly. "I know." he frowns.

"So I was thinking we could hang out this afternoon and tomorrow you can drop me off in the airport?" He asks with puppy eyes. "But I have to go to school."

"It's fine I already talked to the principal and he let you the day off tomorrow so you can leave me in the airport." He smiles innocently. "You really did that?" I giggle. He nods. "Okay then." He grins wider than before.

"So? What do you want to do? Wanna go to the park?" "Sure just let me call my parents." I start dialling my mother's number but Daniel stops me.

"I already told them, you're free to go." I laugh "You planned everything did you?" He laughs. "I guess I did."

We head out from my house and go take a walk in the park. Suddenly, I finally realise something I never did before.

I never realised how important Daniel is in my life.

Before crossing the road I feel Daniel's hand hold mine. I look and our hands and smile. I look up to his eyes and smile wider.

And I finally realise that I was slowly falling for my best friend.

A/N: I don't know why but by the end I started cringing a little but oh well. A few minutes ago my father just walked in my room and caught me writing and now wants to know what was I writing and I don't want him too. 😂
