Laurie's POV:Most of our classmates skip it because for them, there is no use to learn anything about music if you don't know how to play any instrument or have any talent.
Personally I disagree with them but anyways. We go inside and as usual, it was empty. Our music teacher smiles at us.
"Hey guys. What do you want to do today?" Everytime it's only us attending to this class, she lets us choose what to do.
Daniel and I look at each other. "I would like to practice a little more on the cello." Daniel states. "And I would like to play the piano. And by the end of the period I might as well sing a bit." I smile and look at Mrs Smith. "I might as well sing as well." Completes Daniel. He winks at me. I blush. He knows how much I love hearing him sing. I smile at him.
"Okay perfect. Take the instruments and I'll assign to each of you a task." I nod and place myself in front of the piano.
Mrs Smith left us in the classroom after explaining to us what we have to do because she had an urgent meeting.
I play a couple songs on the piano that I already knew by heart and I just close my eyes, let my hands dance on the tiles and enjoy the moment. I really enjoy making music specially with the piano.
Once I finish, I feel Daniel staring at me. I turn around and see him smile. "You're great at the piano. You seem in your own world when you play it. It's cute." He says.
I face again the piano trying to hide my blush. I hear Daniel chuckle. "I should compliment you more. You're cuter when you blush." He winks at me.
I roll my eyes, get up, close the piano and walk to where Daniel is standing. "Oh stop first I'm not cute and second you really like to embarrass me don't ya." I playfully punch his arm. He sighs. "Whatever you say." I giggle.
"Well now that I already played the piano, it's your turn to play the cello." I say wiggling my eyebrows at him. He laughs and sits down ready to play the cello.
I sit on a chair and lean my head on my hand on a desk. I really like it when he plays the cello. It's an instrument that isn't really common for someone to play and Daniel is really good at it.
He peacefully plays and swings his head to the rhythm of the song. He slightly smiles which causes me to smile as well.
Once he finishes, he catches me staring at him. "Take a picture, it will last longer." He winks. I laugh and get up.
We had fifteen more minutes to sing a bit.
I check inside my bag for the lyrics of a song I really like and that I printed yesterday. Once I find them, I read them completely and start humming the melody. It was 'Fight Song' by Rachel Platten.
I stand up and start walking around the place trying to concentrate.
It's a natural thing I do when I try to focus.
Once I kind of know the chorus, I start singing with my eyes closed. I try to sound similar to the song.
I then get caught by the song and sing it all at once. Surprisingly, I get every lyric right. I hear claps in the room.
I turn around from where I am which is facing the wall and see Daniel. I forgot that he's there, and our music teacher is there as well.
"Laurie, that was very beautiful. and it's a really good song choice. It's very nice for your vocal range." I smile and thank her. I see from the corner of my eye Daniel staring and smiling. I smile back.
"Dear why did you pick that song?" Mrs Smith askes me. "Well, I really liked the rhythm and the harmony with the instruments and the lyrics is really deep and I kind of relate myself with it because I went through some hard times just like the artist and it gives me that boost to go forward with life. I feel like a connection with it." The teacher nods.
"Well, I did feel that connection right Daniel?" She asks looking towards Daniel. "Yup me to." He smiles.
"I just want to point out some things so that you can improve while singing this song." I nod and she explains to me what I can improve and what should I do to make the 'performance' better.
It's then Daniel's turn.
He stands up and sings 'How sweet it is', one of his favorite songs and one of mine. I realise that Daniel and I share same passions and we have a lot in common. But our personalities are completely different.
He is sweet, caring, and likes to make new friends, he socializes a lot and he likes to talk even with people he doesn't know. He has a lot of friends.
I am more sarcastic, I am only open to people that are really important to me which makes that I don't have a ton of friends but just a few that are very valuable to me.
We have a lot in common but yet we are very different from each other.
He sings the song so beautifully, it's my favorite version of the song. For me Daniel's voice is so soothing and calming but also strong.
I silently take out my phone and record him. When I'm feeling down, I would always listen to his voice, it usually made me feel better.
Once he's done, Mrs Smith makes some positive remarks and gives him some tips to sing better. For me there was nothing to change.
The bell rings indicating us that it's the end of the day.
