We could hear the music from the party down the street. Hayley was adamant on parking around the corner. She claimed "the further away you park, the less drunk friends you drive home."
"Are you ready to loosen up?" Hayley turned to me once she'd parked the car 'just far enough away from the party.'
"I know how to have fun." I assured her, but something told me she wasn't buying it. "I do. Well I did. Haven't been to any parties recently."
"This is your chance to reawaken the beast. I want to see- party like there's no school on Monday Ryan." She laughed- at her own joke. On anyone else the cocky smile and oddly boisterous giggle would come off fake. Not on her, on her it seemed to fit.
"Fine." I jumped out of the car and opened the door for her. "Let's go." She smiled, the shiny aura was back. I helped her down with my hand in her's. Such a big car, such a small girl.
"Come on then." My hand was lurched forward and I soon followed. It wasn't a a long walk, the house was near by. It wasn't hard to find either, just follow the smell of cheap boo's and loud base. The houses were huge, every single one had some type of flashy car sitting in it's driveway. They reminded me of our old house, before LA, when my parents were together. Minus the expensive car.
"So are you ready?"
"I've said yes."
"Fine." she threw her hands up in defence. The party was in full swing when we arrived, a tall blonde was dancing on the table next to a small beer pong set up. Hayley's hand detached from mine, she ran up to a red haired boy and flung her arms around him-they soon disappeared into the dancing mass.
Okay, this is not a date then.
"Hey." a small brown haired girl shuffled over to me.
"Hi." She had a small button nose and rosy cheeks. It was the opposite to Hayley, Hayley's features were shaper, higher cheekbones, stunning eyes.
"So, you came to our school a week ago, right?"
"Yep, joined after the summer holiday." I nodded my head, and smiled. " I'm Ryan."
"Ashley." She laughed lightly and swooped her hair behind her ears.
"Ah- I see you've met my cousin." The same red-haired boy flung his arm around Ashley's shoulder. Hayley came stumbling into our circle.
"Jake have you met Ryan?" She came in with a smile, like she was still laughing from a previous joke.
"Yeah, and he's definitely met little Ashley."
Jake laughed and squeezed Ashley's shoulder. She looked uncomfortable, like she was squirming in his hold.
"So you two met? What- uh what do you think of him?" Hayley moved closer to me and hooked her arm around my bicep. She was trying to freak Ashley out. Make her know we knew each other, attempting to claim me. I shrugged her off.
"He seems sweet." Ashley stared straight at me, smiling and biting her lips. I think she was nervous.
"Wanna dance?" It wasn't really a question, but I answered anyway.
"Sure." Hayley grabbed my hand and walked us away from the crowd.
"So Ashley huh?"
"What?" she wrapped her arms around my neck.
"Ashley was flirting with you." She dramatically chewed on her lip and batted her eye lashes. "He seems sweet." Her attempt to mimic the cute brunette was awful.
"One, that's not how she sounds. Two, I've met her before she was in my first chemistry class and three, she was chewing on her lips because she was nervous. You stroking my arm, and looking straight into her eyes like a possessive girlfriend didn't help." She dropped her hands to her side and rolled her eyes.
