"Babe." I looked up from my book and turned to Hayley. "So you'll pick me and my sister up at 6:00 right?"
"Yep."
"Okay." She shrugged on her leather jacket and pecked me on the lips.
"More." I moaned and pinched at her side.
"There." The second kiss was just as quick as the first. "Three hours Montgomery. You can do three hours without me."
"Can I?"She didn't miss my forming pout.
"Shut up." Her hand pushed my forhead back onto the bed. She smiled one more time before opening my door.
"Later M."
"Later Lee." She closed the door behind her. I lay back on my bed.
"Lee." Her head popped out from behind wood. "I like that. Lee." Then she closed the door for good and I heard the closing of my front door downstairs.
"God I didn't think she'd leave." Emily came strolling in leaving my door wide open.
"So you like her huh-"
"Well she is my girlfriend."
"Wow that's a big title." I smiled.
"It is."
"Well are you doing anything tonight? I thought we could have a bonding session."
"Not tonight, I'm going on a double date. But definitely tomorrow, I need to thank my sister properly."
"You do." She agreed. "Have fun on your date."
"I will." Emily got up to leave my room but stopped under the door frame. "Have you talked to mum?"
"No."
"I get it Ryan. Trust me. I told mum some stuff and she totally ignored it. In fact she told me I was a liar. She was late to rescue us, and it made the hero effect much less heroic- but never forget she did still come for us Ryan. Late-yes. Depressed-yes. Scared- also yes. But she came and that's more than anyone else did."
"I know."
"I know." She turned to leave.
"Emily." I needed to ask, I needed to find the right words. I couldn't be pathetic, and I couldn't be weak. "What did he do to you? Dad did he- are you a-"
"I'm not a virgin little brother, but that's not because of him." I let out a breathe. My hand travelled to my cheek to wipe the tear that somehow escaped.
"Did he make you-"
"I don't want to relive it Ryan." It almost sounded as if she was angry, but why shouldn't she be. I'd be. "Plus, you already know the answer. You're just too scared to think about it. I've known you a long time Ry. We all have coping mechanisms, I run to forget. You find distractions- and Hayley. Well she's the best one yet." My sister offered me a weak smile and headed out of my room. Leaving the door wide open behind her.
