These are the times we'll remember....

"You bought Doritos, dip, a baguette, soft cheese and- oh look, a jar of olives?" we sat down on a park bench, the seat was by a small roundabout and slide. It reminded me of the ones I used to play on when I was growing up.

"Do you not like cheese?"

"I do."

"Olives?"

"Yeah."

"Doritos, dip?"

"Well, yeah."

"Then stop moaning and shove your face." I halved the baguette and filled hers with the salsa sauce, olives and cheese.

"Here." she took a bite and smiled "and that there is the 'Ryan knows best smile.'"

"Oh Really."

"Yes really"

"Wow okay- if that's what you think."

"What so your not enjoying that sandwich?"

"Besides the point." she rolled her eyes and looked away from me.

"Hey, hey. come on, are you enjoying that sandwich?" she shook her head and looked down at the Doritos. Her face looked like she was trying to hide a smile.

"Okay look me in the eye." I turned to her.

"Oh now you want eye contact." a smile spread across her face.

"Yes, yes I do."

"Okay Montgomery." she turned to me fully and met my eyes. There was something in hers that I hardly see, her pupils were glossy and she smiled brightly.

"I forgot what I was gonna say." My voice wasn't loud, in fact I could barely hear my words. Her eyes were beautiful, I wondered what it'd be like to see the world through them. I smiled at her and she smiled back, and for a moment we sat there. For a second time stopped and for the rest of the night we talked, we laughed and it reminded me of something my mum used to say. 'The occasions you remember are the things you did subconsciously. Normally, the things you took for granted.'
*********
"Oh shit." I felt my body shaking but I couldn't see anyone, everything was dark, a calming dark.
"Ryan. Oh fuck. Ryan wake the fuck up."
I woke up to Hayley, her hair was down all over her face, her cheeks were red and her arms laced with goosebumps.
"We fell asleep." I sat up and placed my head in my hands.
"Shit." I looked back up to Hayley and then around. We were still on the park bench and the air was scratching the back of my neck.
"Oh fuck what's the time?"
"7:00 Greg's gonna kill me?"
"Greg?" I stood up and grabbed the bag off the bench. "Hayl-" I turned around to see her IPhone pointed straight at me. She laughed and looked down at her phone."What?" Her hand made its way towards my face.
"You have a Dorito stuck to your cheek?" She laughed again, but this time I laughed with her. We sat back down onto the bench. I didn't even want to look at my phone. I knew there'd be several messages from my mum and even more from my sister.
"I called us a cab. I know your cars at the school stadium, but you can freshen up at mine." I shook my head.

"The first time I see your dad I'm not gonna look like this." She frowned. I let the silence take over. She shook her legs and placed her hands in between her thighs. I watched her hair blow slightly, I watched her lower lip shiver.
"Come here." My arms wrapped around her and she lay her head on my shoulder.
"You're warm." She wrapped her hands around my waist and shuffled closer. We stayed like this for a while, my breath warming the frozen hairs on the back of her neck, her fingers making small patterns on my lower back.
"City centre cabs." A small man stood in front of a black vehicle.
"That's me." She pulled away slowly and wrapped her arms around her chest. I smiled and kissed her on the forehead.
"I'll see you at school." Her eyes closed and then opened again.
"You call that a kiss Montgomery?" I laughed at this, her eyes watched mine and she smirked.
"Whatever." I stood up and took her hand. "We'll be just a minute" the small driver nodded and got inside his car.
"Don't miss me too much." I turned to Hayley, her eyes were staring up at me.
"Fine." I bent down to kiss her, I didn't get far though.
"I don't give second chances Montgomery." She stepped out of my grip. "I'll see you at school" and with that she headed towards her ride. The taxi skidded off, and I was standing there. Still standing. I only moved when I heard the honk of a horn.
"Ryan." Dan appeared in his Dads van. I ran up to him.
"What are you doing here?"
"Nice to see you to mate."
"You know what I meant."
"Just get in." Dan ran his hands through his hair. "Come on then." I hopped in beside him.
"How'd you find me?" He started the car and drove down the road.
"I was out looking for you. 40 minutes, 40 minutes of my life wasted on finding a guy who wasn't even missing. You were in the bloody park for God sake."
"What?"
"Your sister called me. At first I thought she'd come to her senses and taken me up on my booty call deal, but no."
"Get to the point Dan."
"She thought you were missing. Something about your-" He stopped mid sentence.
"What?"
"Maybe you should ask her."
"Dan don't be a pr-"
"You know I'd tell you if I could, I don't know much and telling you what I know will just make you confused."
"Whatever. Just get me home." I knew exactly what was happening. I knew exactly who did this. I knew if I didn't come home I'd be in trouble but my mum must have been really scared to get Dan to look for me. She knows I can look after myself. Unless she thinks someone's hurt me, but who? The only person that could.
God.
Please.
If your up there make me wrong.
So wrong. Make me so far from the truth it's almost comical.
Please.
I don't want to be right.
"Fuck."
