I stepped out of the shower and shook my hair. I grabbed my towel and tied it around my waist. I was practically freezing once I stepped out, my hair was still dripping slightly and I'd left clothes to change into in my room.
"Hey."
"Hey." I sauntered over to my draws. Eyes were on me. I could feel Hayley watching me.
"Take a picture they last longer."
"Whatever." Her voice sounded croaky "I mean," She cleared her throat "I've seen abs before."
"Not ones like these."
"Whatever, I wasn't even looking." I dropped my towel and changed into tracksuit bottoms. I turned round to see Hayley. Her cheeks were red and her mouth hung open.
"You'll catch flies sweetie." She clamped her jaw shut.
"You could give some warning next time."
"I thought you weren't looking."
"I wasn't, it's just hard to ignore."
"It's not like you saw my dick, that's hard to ignore."
"Ewww." Her hands shot to her face. My hands wrapped around her wrist and I pulled her fingers away from her eyes.
"So what did you think?" She laughed.
"How'd I know you'd ask that?" She lay back on my headboard.
"Come on Hayley." Her cheeks heatened.
"You have a better ass than mine."
"What?"
"You have a Christian grey ass."
"And that's-"
"Fucking awesome." She stood up and stepped in front of me..
"Morning." She wrapped her arms around me.
"Morning."
"Your cold." She said "I thought you just had a shower." I nodded.
"So you were thinking of me then." Her head still against my chest and her hand in mine.
"Pretty much." She sighed.
"Do you ever wonder why this feels so natural?" My hands came from her hair and I pulled away to look at her.
"I'm guessing it's the same reason this feels amazing."
"What feels amaz-" it was another mind numbing kiss. It caught Hayley off guard at first but slowly her senses seemed to re-appear. A smile formed on her lips and she moved her hands up my back. I pulled away first.
"You're probably right." She smiled.
"Your mum called by the-"
"Yeah I know, she called me when you were in the shower."
"Are you leaving?" I asked.
"Only if I want to."
"And do you-"
"No." I smiled
"Great."
"Great." There was a moment of silence, comfortable silence. Then we pulled apart and she sat down on my bed. I went over to my draws and tried to dig out a top of mine she could wear.
"Can I ask you a question?"
"Shoot." My back was to Hayley but I already knew what she was doing: biting her lip in the silence. "I don't bite Rhys." My back was still facing hers, I didn't need to look over at her. She had my full attention, and she knew it.
"Did he do this to you?" Her fingers traced the scar down my back. I shuddered under the contact, I didn't hear her get up from the bed. Her fingers traced to above my trousers and slowly drifted from my skin.
"Ryan?" I turned around to face her. My hand caught her wrist before she could touch me again. She seemed shocked, I loosened my grip and kissed the back of her palm.
"What happened to you Ryan?" No answer "Was it that stupid son of a bitch? Was it your dad?"
"He's not my dad. He's a biological sperm doner that's it." I walked past her and went to sit on my bed. Please stop talking Hayley. Please.
"This was your dream wasn't it?" No answer, she knew. "I'm sorry you had to go through that." Silence.
"How comes your asking now? I know you saw it before. When we went to the cafe, on our first date. You said nothing."
"Things have changed between us since then."
"They have." She sat beside me and rested her head on my shoulder.
"I should take a shower." She said. I smiled, thank God she didn't keep pushing. I handed the white button up shirt I found.
"Here. You can cross this off your bucket list."
"What?" She looked down at my offering hand.
"Like the movies, right?" I unfolded the shirt and she smiled. "Oh and here." I handed her a pair of my boxers. "They're old, they should fit round your waist. " she smiled.
"Thanks."
"Anytime." She took the clothes and kissed my cheek, standing on her tiptoes and resting her arms around mine as she hugged me tighter than she ever had before.
"Scars are for warriors, they're like beauty marks, except they stand for something. They stand for survival, they remind you to be better, stronger, grateful. They stand for resilience, they remind you to be proud, caring, in control. They stand for you Montgomery, and that in itself is something truly beautiful- because nothing else in the world stands for you better than what you have overcome. Nothing." Her grip loosened and she disappeared into the bathroom.
Dan:
You weren't at school yesterday....
Saturday work out?
My phone rested on my drawers, I heard the familiar 'ping' and walked over to look down at the message.
Me: Can't.. busy. Rain check for Sunday?
Dan:Sundays fine.... you're with HER. Right?
Me: Hayley.... and yes. Why?
Dan: We should go out tonight. Me you and Hayley.... and maybe
Hayley's sister.
Me: Dan
Dan: What?
Me: Don't fuck her about. Not this one.
Dan: I won't. I really like Grace Ryan.
Me: Where then?
Dan: I was thinking shakes
Me: The diner?
Dan:Yeah
Me: Fine.
Dan: Great it's a date.
Me: Calm down your not asking me lover boy, I'll see what Hayley says...
Dan: Thanks... I owe you.
Me: don't you have Grace's number?
Dan:Yeah but I'm not desperate
Me: Clearly
Dan: shut up.
Me: I'm not talking.
Dan: haha very funny
Me: your mum seems to think so
Dan: if you weren't doing me a favour.....
Me: Oh but I am Danny.... and for now I own you.
Dan: for now.
"Texting your girlfriend?" Hayley strolled out of the bathroom with my shirt on, drying her wet hair.
"Aren't you a sight for sore eyes." She gave me a twirl and jumped onto my bed.
"Don't change the subject. Who was it?" Her tone was laced with jealousy.
"Dan."
"Oh." She blushed.
"There's no need to be jealous dear."
"Really? I mean I've seen the way you look at him."
"Shutup." I smothered her with my pillow and laughed at her failing attempts to scream Dans name.
"I would've put money on me being the first name I made you scream in my bed." She laughed at this, and burries her blush deep into my pillow.
"So Dan may have a tiny crush on your sister." She removed her pillow
"Have you told him about her?"
"It's not my place." She smiled lightly.
"So he wants to go Shakes with the three of us."
"The diner."
"Mhmm." I nodded my head and began playing with her hair.
"That's fine. She's been feeling ill though, nothing too big."
"ill ill or just a cold."
"ill ill." My eyebrows furrowed.
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"I'm telling you now."
"Yeah because I brought her up."
"Look she's fine Ryan she just has weak moments it happens all the time. It's normal."
"You don't want to talk about it?"
"I'd rather just stay here with you."
"Good."
"Great." She pecked my lips and went over to the iPod I gave her. She handed me my book.
"Get reading."
"Yes ma'am. I'm on it." She giggled.
"Damn straight." It was muttered under her breath, I wasn't meant to hear it, but I did, and I laughed.
Damn straight.
