Chapter 59 - Goodbye's

Erens POV

I leave the duffle bag in my room and text my friends to meet at the park down by Spartanburg road, I make sure Mikasa doesn't know. I want to talk to her in private away from everyone, when I get to the park everyone is already there. Ymir even showed up which was surprising but they were all curious to know what we were doing here.
"I wanted to talk to you all in private away from Mikasa. I'm...gonna leave for a while."
"What exactly do you mean?"
Annie questions looking at me curious to know what's going on.
"I'm leaving to deal with something for a while."
"Don't tell me it's Zeke."
I don't say anything and everyone starts getting upset with me and starts flooding me with questions. The only ones to not do that are Jean, Ymir and Annie.
"Eren please, whatever you're thinking it can't be worth your life."
Reiner states while pacing around like he usually does.
"Your right it's not worth my life, it's worth all of yours. I gotta end it solo...alone...I'm not letting anyone else die beside me."
They all just remain silent and I continue talking about what I wanted to do next.
"I wanted to talk to each of you separately one on one in private before I left."
They all agreed and it started off with Sasha.
"So uh, you're really leaving huh?"
"Yeah, it's what needs to be done to protect you guys."
"I understand, you were an amazing friend Eren."
"Same to you potato girl but I wanted to thank you for saving us that day, you saved each and everyone of us and I don't think I could repay you back for that."
"It's not like it matters, people still died because I wasn't fast enough."
"But people didn't die because of you as well, you did no harm. Don't blame yourself for coming late when you did your best. I'm gonna miss you Sasha."
She starts tearing up and hugs me tight, I embrace it and hug her back the same. Next was Connie, me and him weren't super close but he was still good friends.
"Hey man, it's gonna be hard without you here."
"I know, it's gonna suck not seeing you and Sasha fight over food 24/7."
"Yeah you can't find people like us out in the city so keep us in your memories."
"I will, and by the way Sasha cares for you more then you think. Cherish these moments I know I'm gonna miss them."
"Yeah man I definitely will."
We end the conversation with a hand shake then a hug, those two were definitely the moral boosters of the groups. After Connie it was Krista and Ymir, I swear those two are always together.
"Hey, you two seem really close now."
"Yeah Ymir umm asked me out after the whole thing and I agreed so here we are now."
She says with a smile, I'm happy for them. They seem to have a special bond to each other.
"I'm happy for you two, Ymir I don't know you well but take good care of this one. She'd do anything for the people she cares about, don't take her for granted."
"I won't Eren."
Ymir gives me a fist bump and Krista kisses me on the cheek and they proceed to leave and let Reiner come talk to me.
"Hey bro, I don't exactly agree with what you're doing but I understand why you're doing it. You really think you can do it alone?"
"I have to try right? That's all I can do."
"Yeah, and about before when I was an asshole...I'm sorry for everything I did. I'm glad we finally became friends, I'm sure Bertolt would say the same."
"Thanks man I'm glad we did too, and yeah I'm sure he would."
We shake hands and he lets Annie finally talk to me.
"I can't believe you're still an idiot after all this time."
"I'll take that with a grain of salt missy." I reply smiling.
"If there was someone I could always count on, it was you. You always had my back even when shit hit the fan, you calmed me down a lot and I couldn't ask for a better right hand man or woman which ever suits best."
"Man is find Jaeger, and you can say you're leaving but I'll bring you back. You're not to far gone, this vengeance that you have will blow over soon and when it does we'll all be together again as the family we always were."
"I'd hope that's what happens...I really do."
I never saw Annie as the emotional type but she even starts crying and hugs me tight. I hug her back and whisper thank you for everything into her ear. She lets go whipping away the tears and smiling as she leaves to the rest of our friends. Now last but not least is Jean, he walks up looking disgusted.
"So you're gonna go out and become a suicidal maniac again? Why am I not surprised."
"Glad you're not, look I just wanted to tell you I'm sorry for everything that happened and-"
He puts his hand up signaling me to stop, then looks in my eyes with a grin.
"Don't apologize, makes it seem like you're dead already. Just don't be stupid okay? Don't want Mikasa to be upset about you being dead."
"Yeah alright."
He shakes hands then we give each other a tight hug and I start to tear up and he knows why. We've both lost our best friends to this maniac.
"It's okay man, they're both at peace. You go make that bastard pay alright?"
"Definitely."
We break apart and I wipe the tears from my eyes, now all that's left is to say goodbye to the love of my life. I don't know if I could face her in person...I'd just break down. Then Jean looks behind me and smiles, I turn around and I see Levi and Mikasa standing by the big blossom tree. Mikasas standing there with tears in her eyes....damnit why is this so hard.
