I aim my pistol at the target. I fire once, twice, and a third time. I only hit two of the shots. "Come on! You shoot moving targets all the time, but you can't hit this one?" Serena says, next to me. "Give me the gun. Now watch how I do it." She lines up her shot, the target's not too far away, so she aims straight at it's head. Seven shots later the clip is empty, leaving a hole straight through the metal target. "Hold yourself against the recoil, don't let the gun move you." She reloads and hands the gun back to me. I nod as I aim at the target again. It's not a problem of steadying my breathing, or learning how to aim, I know how to do that. She's teaching me how to essentially erase the recoil of guns so I can continue firing until the clip is empty without having to readjust my aim. We've trained with a few other guns so far, but I haven't been able to empty a clip without missing yet. She decided to start me off with a smaller gun. I don't know what my problem is. It's something with the suddenness of the movement. The unexpected jolt that comes from firing, even though I know it's coming. "Uh, Joey? You still with me?" She nudges me. I shake my head and re-aim the gun. "Yeah, sorry." I aim for a moment, then fire. I keep pulling the trigger until the clip is empty. I was so close! I only missed the last few. I tried to move my arm down as the gun pushed it up, but I couldn't move fast enough before I fired again. Serena sighs. "Maybe we should try this again another time." She says. "No! I can do this." I reload and prepare myself again. I empty the clip into the metal target. I miss the last two and growl. "You really don't have to. We'll come back tomorrow, you'll have a fresher mind." She says, putting a hand on my shoulder. "I will do it!" I say. She takes a step back as I reload again. I aim, holding my arms steady, preparing for the recoil. I fire ten times. It takes me a moment to realize that I hit with all ten of them. Serena gasps, I look over to see her smiling. "Again." She says. I reload and do it again, once again hitting with all the bullets. "Ha ha! Shoot faster." She says. I fire again, much faster, emptying the clip in only two seconds. I keep my arms steady, successfully negating the recoil. It works! I've finally gotten the hang of it. "Good job!" Serena says. She grabs my shoulder and pulls me into a hug, I hug her back. "We can train you on the others tomorrow. Let's get home." She says. I agree, and we head home.
