Once there was a colony of reptilian humanoids. Twelve of them, there were. Six species, two of each. They were outcasts. Outcast for their differences. They found comfort together. They all had many things in common. They often counted them.
They were all reptiles, they all had scales, they were all outcasts, they were all most comfortable in the heat. These were the things that tied them together. They were taught that they could only be happy in life if they were the same as everyone else. But here, together as outcasts, they learned that when everyone's the same, things are so boring!
So, as they grew closer, they stopped counting their similarities and started counting their differences. The argonians had tails, and their horns often looked like spiky crowns on their heads. The kilhn had powerful wings and could fly like dragons. The nagas didn't have any legs and were the sole carriers of the recipes for their advanced weapons. The scalemen were the closest species around to humans. The lizardmen were the closest species around to lizards. The drell had beautiful frills around their neck that they could extend like some lizards or cobras.
They were all different, and they were all unique. Once they stopped relying on their similarities and started celebrating their differences, they all became much happier. They started accepting new people. Other 'monsters' outcast because they were different. They became known as the Dragon Watchers of the Scale Islands. Because scales are what started it all. Scales are what tied these original twelve colonists together long enough to learn that scales weren't the only thing they needed to love each other.
