"If you watch Steven Universe, I don't recommend reading this until you watch the latest episode, "Together Alone." Major spoilers. Read at your own risk. If you don't watch Steven Universe, it shouldn't matter. I'll still try to make this understandable and enjoyable for you."-Tiny

I watch quietly from the rafters. I honestly don't think anyone has noticed me. No one but that white pearl, at least. She seems to see everything. The second she walked into the room, she looked right up at me. She gives me a bad feeling. Despite the fact that I'm shaped like an owl, when she looked into my eyes, it's like she knew exactly what I was. She doesn't cause a ruckus about it, though, and everyone else is too distracted by Steven to notice me. The ball goes on quite boringly. Gems of all kinds come up to Steven and announce their presence, calling him Pink Diamond. Yellow Diamond and Blue Diamond, two of the four gem matriarchs, sit and watch from their thrones. Steven seems really bored, and I can tell he's down that White Diamond, the head gem matriarch, never showed up, instead sending her pearl to observe. At some point his best friend, Connie, climbs up onto Pink's throne and sits next to him. They talk for a bit. Steven looks miserable. Connie jumps down and brings Steven to the dance floor. Everyone else stops and stares. Connie starts dancing, but Steven seems hesitant. Finally Steven smiles and joins her in a fun looking dance. I can't help but smile inside. I look to the diamonds. Yellow and Blue seem bothered, but that white pearl has a horrifying frown on her face. Normally she's always smiling creepily. I look back to the kids and see their bodies glowing. They're fusing! Oh no. Fusion for no reason is frowned upon on Homeworld. Fusion between two different gems is worth a shattering. Fusion between Steven (or, as most gems see him, Pink Diamond), and a human is unfathomable to them. The fusion completes and Stevonnie is left to finish spinning as her laughter dies down. "Pink, what are doing?!" Yellow says through clenched teeth. Stevonnie looks up. "I was just dancing," She smiles. She looks down at herself and notices Steven and Connie's absence. "Ah!" "Pink! This is completely unacceptable! Unfuse, or I'll make you!" Blue stage whispers. Ruby and Sapphire look at each other with fire in their eyes. "Oh no," I whisper. "Don't do it..." Before I even have a chance to think about stopping them, they fuse seamlessly in front of Stevonnie. "You'll have to go through me!" Garnet says, freshly back into existence. Pearl gasps and confidence lights up her face. "And me!" She says. She jumps down from under Pink's throne and grabs Amethyst. "Oh, come on," I say. They quickly fuse into Opal and stand next to the other two. "And me!" A new voice chimes in. Everyone looks over. Two random gems (jades, I think) from the court have fused. "I knew it! I knew I couldn't be the only one- AGH!" She cries out as yellow lightning shoots from across the room, poofing her and both her component gems instantly. I don't hesitate. I fly down and quickly shift into a giant that rivals even the diamonds in size. Yellow Diamond fires off two more bolts of her lightning, aiming to poof Garnet and Opal too. I block them with my arm. I'm organic, so her abilities have no effect on me. "I don't think so," I rumble. "You-" She recoils. "How dare you?!" She fires off more lighting shots at my friends, and I absorb them harmlessly. "Yellow Diamond, you better stop. Or do you think your colonies can function without a leader until you reform? Do you really want to be poofed, and in front of all these gems?" I say. She looks around, then back at me. She can't seem to find her words. "How dare you?!" She repeats. She unloads more bolts of lightning into me, but they have no effect. Before she can react, I pull my sword from its sheath (it grew with me) and quickly slice right through Yellow Diamond's hardlight form. She staggers for a moment, pawing at the point where the sword passed through her. "Puny organic. Your weapon can't hurt a diamo-" Before she's finished, her body explodes into yellow smoke, and her massive gem falls to the ground with a huge thud, cracking the floor. Gems around us scream, and start panicking to get out of the room. Blue cries out, and stumbles to get away from me. I look up at the white pearl. She's been watching silently the whole time. She still wears that horrid frown. Her smile is awful, but even it would be better than this. I turn around and look down at the gems. I shrink down to my human form. "I'm sorry. I couldn't let her hurt you guys," I say. "Don't worry, Joey. You did the right thing. We better get out of here. Come on," Garnet says. The four of us quickly exit the ball room and make our way back to Pink Diamond's room.
