Unsplit Colony

I'm wandering through East Forest, just enjoying the night. I smell a familiar smell, and start in that direction. This creature should not be here. Could they have decided to attack early? Impossible! This is five hundred years earlier. I'm sure the species of the Covenant are around the same technological stage as us. At least not space faring yet. I climb a tree next to a clearing. I move forward in the trees, nearing the clearing where my target is. I look down into the clearing. There it is. A hunter. The hunters are an interesting race. I did a lot of research on them before I found a way back to my own time. Meg'lekgolo: huge colonies of smaller life forms– Lekgolo– banded together to be more intelligent, stronger, and faster. Lekgolo are small worms about three feet long. They have very basic intelligence, but when connected with other Lekgolo, they can become sapient. They can form into a whole manner of different forms. The most common is the Meg'lekgolo, the hunters. Hulking, bipedal beasts with impenetrable armor made of an unknown metal alloy. Attached to one arm is a huge shield of the same metal, and on the other, a heavy fuel rod cannon. It fires rods of green fuel at groups of enemies, that then explode with disastrous results. Lekgolo colonies, when they get too large, are split into two hunters. These two hunters share a very special bond. It's indescribably, really. If one hunter is killed, the second is often thrown into a unbridled rage. It flies into combat with enhanced strength and speed, ready to kill anyone and everyone who took part in it's bond brother's death. A regular sized hunter stands tall, at about 12 feet, but crouched down to cover all their exposed worms, they are only about 9 feet tall. I've fought a couple hunters in my past, but this one is the biggest I've ever seen. It towers almost as tall as the trees. And it's alone, which leads me to believe it's some sort of unsplit colony. It's wearing armor and is equipped with the telltale fuel rod cannon. I shift on my branch to get a better look, when suddenly it snaps out from underneath me. I land hard on my back and groan as I roll over. I open my eyes to see the gargantuan hunter standing over me. "Woah." I say. He seems much bigger from the ground than he seemed from the trees. He cocks his head at me, then rears back and roars. His roar shakes the ground beneath me, and causes all manner of creatures to flee from the area. He takes a step back and aims his cannon at me. I quickly teleport away before he can fire. He cancels the charge and starts spinning around, looking for me. I teleported back into a tree. I watch as he looks for me, doesn't find me, roars again, and lumbers into the woods, away from town.
