I lean against the short, concrete wall around the edge of the roof of a tall building. I peek over the edge with my rifle, zooming in to see through the windows of the even taller building neighboring this one. "I have eyes on the target. If you fail, I'll be ready." I say into my comm. I hear a chuckle in response. "As if that were even possible." Responds a female voice. "Mae. Seriously. This is one of our most difficult targets. It took months to set this up. I'm not gonna chance loosing this opportunity. If we screw up he'll disappear for decades, if not centuries. We'll never get another chance like this." I rant. She doesn't joke this time. Just hums in affirmation. "You're right. Serious time." She says. I peek through my scope again, pressing a button on the side for infrared vision. I see the target, sitting at his desk, doing random work. His bodyguards are stationed evenly throughout his office, just outside his door, and all throughout the building. Two outside the door, and 6 in the office. They're the only ones that should mater. We'll be gone before the rest even know what happened. Along with him and all the guards, I see Mae crawling silently through the ducts, above his office. She stops right above his head. "Target in sight." She whispers, almost silently. "And the grate is loose, just like you said it would be. Thanks." I see her pull up the grate and set it quietly in the vent across the hole. She then disappears from my infrared. I can't see it, but I know she's soundlessly dropping into the office, and setting up traps at the feet of each guard in the room, and right by the door for the guards outside it. Finally I see her reappear standing in the middle of the room. "Hello, Nigel." She says. Suddenly her traps go off, and each guard falls asleep. The sounds of their bodies thumping to the ground draws in the guards from outside the door, and they both quickly succumb to their own traps. "Long time no see." Mae continues. I watch, keeping my crosshair firmly on Nigel's forehead. I don't bother loading in a shot. My rifle fires telekinetic bolts. They pass through most obstacles, like the glass, or any cover, but can still rip through any armor, shields, or magical protection that would otherwise stop regular rounds. "Mae Thai." Nigel says. He doesn't seem surprised or worried. "Nice of you to join me. Quite rude of you, putting all my guards to sleep like that." "Shut up." Mae says. She walks forward, pulling out her knife. "You've had this coming for hundreds of years. I'm lucky that I get the pleasure of ending your miserable existence." She says. "Mae, cut the chatter and kill him already. You know how crafty he is. Every second wasted is another chance for him to escape." I say. I don't think she can hear me, though. I suddenly realize the room itself is protected. I can hear her, my transmission can't get in. Mae can't hear me. She's too blinded by rage, and the lust for vengeance. I cannot risk her getting sloppy and him slipping away. I fire. Nigel's head explodes, and his body slumps in his chair, and slips to the ground. Mae jumps and whirls around to me. "Jax! How could you!? I had him." She shouts. I simply shake my head. She growls and disappears, probably exiting through the vent she came in. I begin my climb down the building to wait for her at the rendezvous.
