I'm in the living room rearranging some books on our shelf. I hear the door open and the farmer walks in. I scowl at him, but turn away to keep messing with the shelf before he sees me. "Hey, Emily." He says. I put on my fake smile and turn my head slightly. "Hey, Keith! This rain, huh? Though, I suppose it probably gives you a break from watering your crops." I say, flamboyantly. "Yeah. It's great." He answers. He seems distracted. He's fiddling with something I can't see in his pocket. "Hey, is Haley home, by chance?" He asks. I struggle to hide my dismay. Of course he's looking for Haley. "Why, yes. She's in her room, I think." I answer. He smiles, thanks me, knocks, and walks into her room. I move close and listen, and I hear another knock, and then a door opening and closing. He's probably entering her dark room. I quietly open the door to her room and sneak across to the door of the dark room. I slow my breathing and put my ear close to the door. I just catch Haley finish explaining the purpose of the room. "It looks great!" Keith says. "Thanks!" Haley replies. "So.. what do you want to do now?" She asks. I hear shuffling feet and then silence. "Oh Keith... I've been waiting so long for you to do that." She says. "One moment." I hear a click, and the dim light that was coming from under the door disappears. More silence, then two gasps for air, and the light comes back on soon after. "I've... I've got something for you." Keith says in a quiet voice. Suddenly Haley screams. I freakin knew it! I knew something was wrong with him! I bust the door open quickly and charge at Keith. "Get away from my sister!" I shout. I pin him to the wall, and something clatters to the ground. "Emily, no!" Haley cries. "It's not what you think! Look!" She picks something off the floor. I look over and see a Mermaid's Pendant hanging from her fingers. I gasp and look at Keith. "You- but.. I thought..." I'm at a loss for words. Keith smiles shyly. I get off him and compose myself. "I'm sorry. I- I thought-"
He cuts me off. "It's fine. Really. I understand." Haley pushes passed me and wraps her arms around Keith. I notice the pendant is now around her neck. "I'll.. go. Sorry." I quickly leave the dark room.
