I'm on my way to a Halloween party with Serena. Not on the actual night, oh no. I spent the 31st patrolling the town, keeping an eye out for witches using the potent dark magic that the holiday holds to cast horrible spells. I detained many. That's besides the point, however. It's November 2nd now, and Polly and Carly are hosting a costume party. I guess as a way to relax and forget about the problems plaguing us. I'm dressed as a corruption, of sorts. I'm not sure, exactly, what I am. I just thought it looked cool. See, I can do something strange with my ability to teleport. I can teleport hundreds of times a minute to the same exact spot I'm already standing in, to give my bodily form a look of... 'glitching' I guess one would call it. It's completely safe, has no practical use, and doesn't require too much effort at all. It makes it look like my physical body is glitching, as if in a video game. Frames of me will jump around, and it looks as though I'm never in a completely 'solid' state. I've also used body paint to decorate my skin to help go with the ability. There are cracks in my skin, some areas are completely broken away, showing a pitch black interior, like some kind of glass doll. One of my eyes is gone, broken into one of these black holes. Some cracks are seeping purple, black, or red 'blood'. And then it's all made to look even more realistic, using magic. It's a good costume, in my opinion, and I have Serena to thank for the help with the body paint. Speaking of Serena, she's dressed as some kind of warrior princess. She's Viking-like, with leather and iron armor, a horned helmet, and her hair is dyed blonde for the occasion, wrapped into one large braid that hangs over her shoulder. She looks beautiful in it. Anyways. We're almost to the party, I can even see their house from where we are. It's decorated for the holiday, and lights are flashing on the inside. We walk up to the front door and knock. A few seconds later Carly, dressed as a scantily clad fairy, opens the door. "Guys! Welcome." She smiles. "Nice costumes! Come on in. The party's just getting started." She steps aside and motions us in. Me and Serena enter. We're in the foyer, there's a hallway to the kitchen straight ahead, and a doorway to a living room to our right. "There's snacks and punch in the kitchen, the other guests are hanging out in the living room, and we've set up a makeshift dance floor in the dining room." She explains. "Fun." Serena says. She starts walking towards the kitchen and I follow her. "Want some punch?" Polly asks as we walk up. She's dressed as a pirate. She's got an eye patch, and everything. "Sure." Serena says. I smile but shake my head. "Not for me." I say. Polly pours a cup and hands it to Serena. "Thanks." She takes a sip. "Nice costume by the way." She says. I nod. "Yes. It's pretty good." "Mine? This is just something I picked up at the store. Yours, Joey. Now that's a costume," Poly responds. We mingle for a little bit as more and more guests start filling the house. The back porch is available for floor space, but most people prefer to stay inside with the warmth. I'm currently talking with someone I saw on the battle field once. It's nice to talk with the people I fight alongside while our lives aren't on the line. Suddenly an upbeat song starts playing in the dining room, and most of the guests flock to the dance floor. It's one of the modern pop songs, with rap and all that. I don't listen to music often. Serena appears out of nowhere and starts pulling me to the dance floor. "Come on, come on, come on. Let's dance!" She says excitedly. "Ok ok. I'm coming. Don't pull my arm off." I laugh. The dining room is cleared out, and there's a DJ set up in the corner. Speakers are hung near the ceiling and colored lights are flashing all around. People are jumping to the beat, arms waving, feet stomping. Me and Serena get into the rhythm and start dancing along vigorously. I keep my eyes on Serena, shaking and hopping. She looks down at me and smiles. Coming close, she shimmies her shoulders and twirls around me. Her intense red eyes never leave mine. I chuckle nervously. I've stood face to face with demons before and not broken a sweat, but those eyes of hers seem to stare right into my soul, and I can't help but shiver. She places her finger on my chest and slides it up, lifting me head by the chin to look right up at her. She grins, red lips parting to show pearly white teeth. Her beauty is intoxicating. I can't believe this is the woman I am engaged to. She then leans over my shoulder, her lips brush against my ear when she talks. "Oh, the things I'm going to do to you tonight." A short laugh escapes my lips before she pulls away and resumes dancing. I do the same, keeping my mind off the sinful acts I'll be busy with later. Soon enough the song has ended and me and Serena are sweaty. Another song starts to come on and we leave the dance floor to get a drink. I gulp down a whole cup of punch and start making myself another. Serena drinks a few sips and sets her cup down. "That was so fun!" She says happily. It's so nice to see her like this. I look at her, taking in her features. She's wearing nice makeup. Her red lips look full, and her eyes pop because of the eye shadow she's got on. Her hair is slightly damp from sweat, and some stray hairs are escaping the braid. Her chest's rising and falling as she finishes catching her breath. She's utterly stunning in every way. Even when she's not wearing makeup, or wearing sleep clothes, or fresh from the diner. I'm so lucky to have gotten such a girl to go out with me. "Uh, earth to Joey." She waves her hand in from of me. "What's going on in there?" I smile and shake my head. "Just admiring the view." I say. She giggles and spins away. "Come on. Let's keep dancing." She says. And we do just that. Song after song, we dance the night away together.
