A woman stands in her kitchen in the middle of the night. Standing across from her is her father. He looks down at her, his brown eyes identical to hers. "I don't have to tell you how important this is for you, for all of us," He says. Her hope for a fatherly goodbye is whisked away in that short sentence. "No, sir," She says. "You don't." "I don't know if you can undo the disgrace you brought down on us by running off with them, but this is a step in the right direction. Do not mess this up. You're being tested. Follow your orders. Keep the Moroi girl out of trouble." He sighs and runs a hand through his dark blonde hair. She inherited that from him too. "Thank God Keith is with you. Follow his lead. He knows what he's doing." The woman stiffens at his name. "Yesss,"A quiet voice hisses from behind the woman, dripping with disdain. "Thank the great Lord, that this.. creature is coming with us." They both ignore the voice, as they've always done. Trying not to give it a second thought. For a split moment she thinks of telling him her secret. Telling him what she knows about Kieth. "Yesss. Do iiit," The voice whispers again. The woman shakes her head. Staring into her father's hard eyes, she answers her own question. No one would believe her. The man stands, still waiting for an answer. "Yes sir," She says, stiffly. "If you won't, then I will," The voice hisses. A form rises from behind the woman. It's almost an exact copy of her, but taller and darker. It drips with a black, gel-like energy that evaporates before it hits the floor. It's eyes are pure white. It rises out of her back, not giving off any weight, so the woman isn't burdened at all. "Kieth isn't the perfect boy you think he is," The creature says, louder this time. "What are you talking about?" The man says, finally acknowledging the creature. "Sydney! Get this thing under control." "Keith has committed crimes that would put him far lower than the 'demons' you so fervently 'protect the world' from." Sydney twists and grabs the creature's torso, squishing it completely in her hands. She rips it around, causing it to detach from her back. She holds it in front of her face, her calm facade finally dropped. "Shut up!" She growls. The creature chuckles darkly, amused. "One more word, and I'll-" "You'll what? You can't kill me!" It roars. It turns it attention back to the man. "You remember your other daughter, correct? Carly?" Sydney violently shakes the creature, spraying the slimy energy in all directions. It evaporates before making contact with anything. The creature simply laughs again. "Keith sure does. He probably knows her better than any of you. He actually went as far as to-" Suddenly Sidney squeezes down on its torso hard, crushing it in her hands. The creature explodes into wisps black fabricy strips that flow around like smoke. They fly around then converge back on Sydney, fusing into her body. "Sydney, what was it talking about?" The man asks. The woman breaths heavily, not hearing him at first. She stands back up straight, pushing a strand of her hand back into place. She looks at her father. "It doesn't matter," She says, simply. She turns to walk out. "I should get going." "Sydney. Sydney! Come back here, what was that demon talking about?" He calls after her. She ignores him, walking back into the foyer.
