"No! He is not coming with us!" Petra shouts as she pulls out a gun and fires it at Ian. It seems as though everything goes into slow motion. Li is moving to knock away Petra's gun, Ian's pack is tensing up and bearing their teeth, all their hair standing up. Without thinking I try to teleport in front of Ian, forgetting that my ability doesn't work in this dimension, but to my surprise my hand starts to burn away in purple embers, and reappear in front of Ian. That's when I realize it's not the heat of the moment that is causing the slow motion, the world is actually slowed down. I watch the purple embers burn up my arm and outwards from my chest as I slowly teleport. I can see the bullet leaving Petra's gun and moving very quickly towards Ian's chest. Right when I start fearing that I might not make it in time is when the teleportation process ends and I am suddenly in front of Ian. Very abruptly, the world speeds up again, and Petra's bullet hits me in the chest instead of Ian. Petra steps back, eyes wide, while I fall on the ground on my back. "Joey!" Ian shouts as I fall to the ground. Ian growls something at his pack and the six dogs rush Petra, snarling at her as they tackle her to the ground. My vision goes black and I fall into the void of unconsciousness. "My savior." Is the last thing I hear Ian say.
