I'm walking with Serena through the streets of Endromidus. It's Valentine's Day, and there are couples on dates everywhere. Serena said she didn't want anything special. Just to spend some time with me. She also said she wanted to show me something. We start approaching the edge of town, and the open area between the edge of town and South Wall. "So," I start. "What was it you wanted to show me?" I ask. She smiles. "You'll see. He should be here soon," She says. "Who-" Suddenly Serena twirls away from me and does a wicked backflip. I barley see what happens. When she lands she holds up two arrows, with heart shaped heads. "What the..." I ask. She lets out a breath. "He's here." Seddenly she drops to the ground, and then rolls to the side. Another arrow whizzes passed where she was standing, and three more stick into the ground inches away from her as she rolls away. "What is happening!? Serena?" I ask. She stands up and pulls an arrow out of the ground. "Fuck off!" She shouts to the sky. She then throws the arrow upwards like a spear. It flies straight, then stops. Suddenly a 3 foot tall man in a dapper suit with a hot pink bow tie appears floating in the air. He has white feathered wings, like and angel, and a quiver strapped across his back. In his left hand is a bow, and in his right he twirls the arrow around. "Now, Serena," He says. His voice is smooth and playful. Deeper than I would've expected. "Don't be like that. You have to let me hit you one day," He says. "No I freaking don't. Not today, Cupid. Not ever," She says, throwing another arrow. He waves his hand and all the arrows disintegrate into pink dust and reappear in his quiver. "Seven hundred years, Serena," He says, impatiently. "You've been around for seven hundred years! And not once you've fallen in love. I had to take action. You know this!" "You're 700 years old?" I ask. "Give or take a few years," She mumbles. "Oh! Who's this young fellow? I didn't even see you there." "The name's Joey. Protector Joey. And I'd appreciate it if you didn't shoot my girlfriend, please and thank you," I growl. "Oh, my friend, you needn't worry. I would never hurt anyone, these arrows simply- wait.. did you say girlfriend?" He floats down to right in front of me. "Fiancé, actually," I say, defiantly. He looks incredulously at Serena. "You.. you found someone?" He asks, caught off guard. "I did," She says. "And I didn't need your God forsaken arrows to do it, either." He smiles, like he suddenly got a joke. "I see how it is. This isn't actually anyone important. It's a set up. To get me to think you've fallen in love and leave you alone," He says. "Not true! I love this man, more than I love myself. No matter how much you don't want to believe me, it's true," She says defensively. "I'll be the judge of that." He floats over to Serena and places his small hand on her forehead. She looks annoyed, but allows it. His eyes glow white, then pink, as do Serena's. Then he floats back, letting her go. "You really did it. I can't believe it. After all these years..." He whispers in disbelief. "Yes I did. Now screw off!" She says. He chuckles. "Alright, alright. I'll go." He floats over to me and holds out his hand. I take it and we shake. "Nice to meet you, young man. My name is Cupid. You are a very lucky guy. This woman hasn't loved anyone other than her immediate family for as long as she's been alive," He says. "Treat her right." He then starts flying away. "You better bet I'll be back to check on this relationship," He says as he gets farther away. "Please don't." Serena calls. "I'm coming to your wedding!" He shouts. Then he's gone. Serena sighs, then smiles. She then laughs. "Man, his face when you told him who you were. He never, and I mean never expected me to find someone." She laughs. My mind is elsewhere. "I... I was your first love?" I ask sadly. She stops laughing and looks almost guilty. "Don't worry about that," She says. "For 700 years, you never fell in love with anyone at all?" I say. "That's so sad! How did you live like that?" "I made do," She says. "It doesn't matter. I found love in the end. I found love in you." She walks over and kisses me. When she pulls away she smiles. "And I couldn't be happier," She says. I smile and kiss her back. "C'mon, lets go home," I say. We start walking back, hand in hand. "So, am I to expect Cupid at our wedding?" I ask. "Oh yeah. I wouldn't put it passed him to find out when and where it's taking place and show up. We can also probably expect him the next few years every Valentine's Day. He used to show up every year, then every few years. Then every few decades," She explains. "Now that he knows I'm with you, he's gonna want to make sure it lasts," I nod. "Hmm. He seems nice. He'd make a good friend," I say. She laughs. "You have no idea. I've known him for centuries, and let me tell you..." She proceeds to tell me all about the 'great' Cupid as we walk home.
