Sophie's POV
LeClaire was so welcoming it actually made me feel so at home. I left Luke and his mama in the living room to catch up because he ain't seen her in a while and I said I would make the supper for us. I was making pork chops mash and green beans so it was something I could easily throw together. I was just laying the table and I was gonna walk thorough when I overheard them speaking
"Aw you will never guess who I saw in town yesterday" LeClaire said
"Who Mama" I heard Luke say
"Caroline, such a beautiful woman she has grown to be. Why you two never stayed together is beyond me. Y'all could have had little grand babies for me to swoon over" I heard her say. I thought to myself, who the fuck is Caroline
"Mama that's in the past. You know what happened there and I don't wanna talk about it" I heard him say
"You two where always together," she said as Luke cut her off
"Mama please I don't wanna go there and I would appreciate it if you don't mention her in front of Sophie." I heard him whisper
"Ok. Don't want to upset her" I heard he say
I went back into the kitchen and checked on the supper. I didn't want to go in straight away or they would have known I heard them talking. I gave it a few more minutes and went through
"Supper will be ready in five minutes" I said
Luke clocked that I wasn't being my usual self and he mouthed
"Are you ok"
I nodded and went back to the kitchen.
LeClaire came in to help me set the table
"This looks lovely dear, thank you." She said smiling
"It's no problem I love cooking" I replied
Luke came in and took his seat at the table.
"Sophie, would you like to say Grace" LeClaire asked
"Sure"
I said a few words and thank the lord. And we all started to eat.
After dinner Luke washed up the dishes and I went upstairs to get washed and unpack my things. I started to get to thinking, did LeClaire like Caroline better than me. Did she want Luke to try again with her. I tried to shake the thoughts from my mind as I went downstairs. I went into the kitchen just as Luke was putting the last of the dishes away
"Where's your mama" I asked
"She is outside having a cigarette. Is everything ok baby" he asked
"Yeah" I said but he could see right through me
"Who's Caroline"
