All I could hear was Caroline sobbing as I sat there in complete shock. Sophie leaned over a squeezed my hand
"Luke baby say something" was all I could hear
"Why the fuck didn't you tell me Caroline, and how can you be sure he is mine." I asked
"Luke he is your double. He looks so like you" she said. Sophie said
"Do you have a picture of him that we could see."
She went into her purse and pulled out at photo. She passed it to me and it was like looking in a mirror
"What's his name and how old is he" I whispered
"His name is Thomas after his daddy and he will be 10 in July, I'm so sorry Luke I should have never have kept him from you." She said
"Then why did you Caroline," I asked
"I found out I was pregnant a month after we split up and by that time it was to late to do anything about it, so I moved out of town, you know how small this place is and people talk. I moved in with my grand mama in Jackson. Thomas was born 6 months later. I needed the money for a down payment on a house so we could actually have a stable home. It's been hard Luke, child support can only get you so far" she said
"Caroline, you should have told him" Sophie said
"I know, I know I should but as time went on it became harder and harder. Now he is asking questions, where is daddy is and if he has a meemaw." She said
"What I don't understand is you and mama have been talking, why has she never seen him or anything like that" I asked
"Well I wanted to tell her to get you to contact me and then you were down for the weekend and I saw an opportunity to try fix this and I went kinda insane"
"Huh that's an understatement, I have a ten year old son that I knew fuck all about. I have missed so much of him growing up. I want to meet him and I want an DNA test as well"
"Luke I ain't lying here he is yours" she said
"Excuse me for being a little pessimistic here Caroline but it's not like you are the most trustworthy person here. I need you to go home and I will get my lawyer to contact you when I get home to Tennessee with regards the DNA test. After the results come through and he is mine I will make sure he has a stable home. I was shared custody Caroline I want to be able to build a relationship with him" I said
"Ok" was all he said as she got out of the car
"Oh and Caroline I want those negatives now" Sophie said.
She went into her purse and handed me the memory card.
"Hope to hear from you soon Luke. And once again I'm so sorry"
I sat in silence for about 5 minutes, Sophie's broke the silence
"Luke baby, I will help you through this, I love you"
"Thank you baby and I'm sorry for all of this. I wanted my first baby to be with you"
"Luke it was way before we met and if that little boy is yours I love him like he is my own"
"I don't know I got so lucky finding you baby" I said as I held her hand.
"We better get back to your mamas and fill her in on everything that's happened" she said
"Yeah, ain't looking forward to this conversation" I said turning on the engine and reversing out
